We have our final rehearsal tomorrow at 4:30, just like normal. Please make it a priority to attend.

CONCERT DETAILS

Rehearsal Tomorrow - PLEASE ATTEND

Hi families!

Regular rehearsal tomorrow, November 3, 4:30-6 pm.

This is our second-to-last rehearsal before the concert. We have noticed a large decline in attendance. We do our best to prepare NUYCO members for the concert but cannot help them if they are not at rehearsal. :) Please, please, please make sure they are there on time, if not early, and stay for the entire rehearsal. If you absolutely cannot make it, the Attendance Form is always linked at the bottom of every email. As was mentioned in the Parent Meeting, I need to know if your member will be gone. Thank you!

Weekly Rehearsal AND Party! - NUYCO

Hello families!

REHEARSAL
Yes, rehearsal at 4:30 on Thursday. AND we're having a Halloween party! Everyone is welcome to wear their costumes as long as they don't interfere with playing instruments. :) We will play a game or two and eat some non-perishable, unopened food leftover from Retreat. You are welcome to bring food but we definitely don't need more! Haha!

We will have sectionals on Thursday. This means that if you/your NUYCO member will be gone, I *need* to know. Keep reading for sectional-specific practice spots!

Violin 1 - Waltz: transitions between main sections. Straus: tempo changes and balance (i.e., dynamics).
Violin 2 - Strauss: m. 155-end (bowings, ritardandos). Corelli: transition from adagio to allegro. Brazilian: transition to the coda. Waltz: ritardandos.
Viola - Brazilian: m. 40 and 52 chromatics. Corelli: m. 8 rhythm. Strauss: m. 2-11. Waltz: chords at the very end.
Cello - Waltz: transitions between main sections. Straus: tempo changes and balance (i.e., dynamics).
Bass - Waltz: transitions between main sections. Straus: tempo changes and balance (i.e., dynamics).

All Things NUYCO Retreat

Hello Families! Please read all of the following information about retreat!

Payment - you have two options for Retreat payments: pay online (linked, scroll down to the payment widget thing) or hand me the money on Friday. $35 for NUYCO members, $15 for chaperone (if sharing our food).

Schedule - drop off on Friday, October 7 at 5 pm; pick up on Saturday, October 8 at 4 pm

Directions to Camp Earley - it is a dirt road with pot holes. Drive carefully. :)

Packing List - use your common sense, haha. Normal camping/overnighter supplies plus close-toed shoes and mosquito spray. There are showers at the camp BUT we will not be using them! Modest pajamas are a MUST - we will all be sleeping in one room. Nothing tight, see-through, or otherwise inappropriate.

Check In and Out - there will be an adult posted by the lodge; all NUYCO members will be checked in and out by a parent. I want to know exactly who I have under my supervision! Please do not rush out of the camp, especially since we have so many new members who haven't been to the camp before. Be sure you talk to the Check In/Out adult before leaving.

Help with food - if you didn't sign up at the Parent Meeting and would like to contribute a dessert, salad, or snack, sign up on the doc!

Chaperone - if you didn't sign up to chaperone and would like to, we would LOVE to have you! Chaperones pay $15 for food, unless you want to bring your own meals and then you can come for free! Let me know if you're interested.

Carpool - I know Camp Earley is quite a drive for some of you. If you are interested in a carpool, let me know and I will set one up!

NUYCO email

Hello NUYCO!

Today would be a great time for you to send any payments for tuition and/or retreat with your NUYCO member! Or pay online if that is easier.

$35 retreat
$15 per adult chaperone (forgot to mention this at the parent meeting. This covers your food costs)

Thanks! See you at 4:30!

Parent Meeting info - please read

Hello families! Thank you for the *stellar* attendance at the parent meeting on Thursday. Maestro West and I really appreciate it!

This is a recap of the meeting. Even if you attended, please read this as it may remind you of actions you need to take. :)

1. Retreat! I will need help. If you have decided after the meeting that you would like to help or chaperone, please let me know! Please watch for more details.

2. Membership fee: $140
Retreat fee: $35
Please pay as soon as you can. Thanks for your support! You can pay cash or check, send it to rehearsal, and give it to me, or you can pay online for a small service fee.

3. You can volunteer with us!
** Join the board. If you are interested in expressing your opinion and offering your perspective in a monthly board meeting in person (north east Brigham City) or on Zoom on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30 pm, please send me a brief statement about yourself, any musical background, and why you want to serve.
** We would love someone with musical experience to put together our concert programs. Reach out if this is something you would enjoy.
** We also need photographers at concerts, set up and take down before and after concerts, party planning and set up, and many more!

4. You can support us in other ways!
** Buy grocery certificates. This is like a gift card to Kent's and Smith's (and any other Kroger or Food Club stores). This helps us out so much! If you are interested in using this simple fundraising solution, please call Naomi Miles at 435.723.7617.
** Join Smith's Rewards or Amazon Smile - also very simple!
Smith's Community Rewards
  • Sign in to www.smithsfoodanddrug.com with your rewards card. On the left side of the "My Account" page, click on Inspiring Donations. Click "Enroll Now" and type "Lake Bonneville Symphonic Society" or "NJ978". Click the button when our organization appears.

Amazon Smile

  • Sign in to smile.amazon.com with your Amazon account. When asked to select a charitable organization, type "Lake Bonneville Symphonic Society". Click "select" when the list comes up.

5. Sponsorship! Another way to support us with your money. :) This can be done by a business, individual, or family. The sponsorships pay for our performance venues, which cost us anywhere from $350 to $1000. Any amount, big or small, helps. If you are interested, send me an email! Or you can send a check directly to us: LBSS, P.O. Box 236, Brigham City, UT 84302

6. Remember to always fill out the attendance form if you will miss a rehearsal! It's linked at the bottom of every email.

7. The first concert is November 11 at 7 pm at Ogden High School. We will have a sound check before that, so plan on arriving after 4 ... final time to be decided.

CALENDAR
September 29: Normal rehearsal, 4:30-6
October 6: NO REHEARSAL
October 7-8: Retreat at Camp Earley!

Thanks again!

Welcome to the New NUYCO Season!

Hello families!

In case I missed anyone before... you are accepted to NUYCO! Can't wait to have you join us. We have a great concert season planned - even playing some Christmas music! Nothing better than Christmas in September, right? :)

Our first rehearsal is THIS Thursday, September 15, 4:30-6 pm at Promontory School in Perry. We will be rehearsing in the gym because with our large numbers this year, we literally cannot fit into the library where we have previously rehearsed. What a wonderful problem to have! When you enter through the big doors on the north side of the school, walk down the hallway, turn right, and the gym doors will be open on your left.

Remember our Parent Meeting is on September 22 at 6 pm. It will be very short (done by 6:30) and is a very important meeting to attend (especially if you are a new family joining us this year). Please make it a priority to come. If you cannot attend, please let me know! Many questions will be answered at this meeting and it's the easiest time to pay tuition!

RETREAT (one of the best times all year) is October 7-8 at Camp Earley. You will bring your child(ren) to the camp (located between Tremonton and Logan in the foothills) at 5 pm on Friday and pick them up at 4 pm on Saturday (if I'm remembering right - make sure you come to the Parent Meeting so you can be sure!). It is so fun - full of games, food, fun, and rehearsals - so please help your child(ren) attend!

You and your child(ren) may enjoy reading about the adult specialists who will be helping out this year. We are blessed to have so much talent within our organization! Find the staff bios here.

Alrighty, I think that wraps it up for this week. Thanks for creating a habit of reading my emails. I try not to put in too much extra info. :)

See you on Thursday! Can't wait!

Fwd: NUYCO: Long Awaited Audition Info!

NUYCO families (current, past, and prospective),

I hope you all have had a wonderful summer so far! I've missed spending rehearsals together and can't wait to get started again. There have been some exciting changes happening with NUYCO:

1. We have a brand new website! Same domain, different site. Check it out: www.northernutahyouthsymphony.org

2. We are excited to announce two new groups joining us this next season:
- The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of the NUYS brass specialist, Abigail Erickson. This group is geared for winds, brass, and percussion students in middle school with at least 2 years of playing experience. This will be like NUYCO but with the "band" instruments, and we are excited to offer some collaboration opportunities in the future. More info about NUYWE can be found here.

- The Preparatory Strings, under the direction of Elizabeth Marsh (mother of three of our NUYCO members last year). This group will be for younger string students who have had at least one year of playing experience. More info about NUYPS can be found here.

2022 - 2023 Season:
In-person auditions are scheduled for August 27th. You can also submit an online video audition if you can't make it. Click here for audition information.

Audition requirements haven't changed. Whether you do a video or come in person, you need to be prepared with a major scale, a minor scale, 60 seconds of a prepared solo, and the audition excerpt for your instrument found at the link above.

Maestro and I want this season to have the largest enrollment we have ever had! We need your help to make this happen. Please pass along this information to your family and friends. I've attached our new season poster that you can share on social media. Let's make this happen!

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Don't forget to sign up for auditions!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Fwd: NUYCO - Time Change - Please read

NUYCO families,

Maestro let me know I forgot an important announcement in the last email! As he frequently says in rehearsal, that is the first mistake I have ever made ... :)

NUYCO rehearsals have been moved to Thursday afternoons, 4:30-6 pm. Maestro, myself, and the Board of Directors really labored over this decision and tried to take all things into consideration. We hope you will be able to make the new time work!

We know that gas is expensive right now and if you have children who are in NUYS, you may not be interested in making a trip to Perry twice a week. We understand. Please reach out! I am so happy to set up carpool arrangements or offer another way for you to be involved.

Thanks again!

Hello families! Maestro and I just wanted to wrap up the year, now that the Tour is over (sob). What an amazing year it was!

First of all, watch Maestro's send-off video! Make sure you watch to the end...

Please look at the attached photos and confirm none of the Lost and Found items are yours! Everyone should look through the photos, whether you went on Tour or not. And if you came home from a rehearsal or the Tour that doesn't belong to you, let me know and I'll help find the owner!

We hope to see ALL of you again in the fall! Just to keep you apprised of the typical schedule...
--- An audition excerpt will be available by July. You will need to perform that during your audition, along with a major scale and a minor scale (1-2 octaves each) and a 60 second solo of your choice. You can start practicing the scales and solo now and then work on the excerpt when it is available!
--- In-person auditions will be in August; you are also welcome to send in a video audition.
--- Rehearsals will start in September.
--- Retreat is in October! It's almost as fun as Tour. :)
--- Concert in November

Maestro and I hope that you all return to NUYCO in the fall... but if you decide to jump ship and go to NUYS, we will still cheer you on. :) Seriously though, we know you will do great things wherever you are and can't wait to watch you progress. Stay tuned for the audition details!

And please tell your friends about how cool NUYCO and NUYS are! We would love to grow our membership.

Thanks! See you in August!

Concert Wrap-Up, Lost and Found, Tour Update - NUYCO

Hi families, what a fabulous concert. Thanks for everything you did to help us. If you volunteered your time either setting up or striking the stage, please let me know so we can track the volunteer hours!

Please read the following two paragraphs to your NUYCO members.

From me (Josie): Wow, could we have ended the season any better than we did? You had the chance to play with NUYS *and* earn a standing ovation. My favorite part of the entire night (I had so many favorites but this was the top) was watching each of you soak in the standing ovation. I could almost see you thinking, "Woah, this is for me because I did something really cool. They really liked my music." You're right, they did. Fantastic job.

From Maestro: Great concert! Wonderful way to cap off a great season. For those not going on tour, have a great summer. I look forward to seeing your auditions, whether for NUYCO or NUYS. For those going on tour, we're back at it at 9:00 AM on Saturday, in the gym, reviewing opera concert music!

Lost and found items from the concert (see attached photos)...
- Brave Theater Company (Bountiful High School) t-shirt - I found this in my bag after the concert, but it is not my shirt. Haha.
- Gray girls coat, two rows of buttons.
- Black cashmere scarf left at Logan High School in February.
- The button, shoes, and microfiber cloth were found together in the NUYCO section of the balcony. The water bottle owner has been found. :)

Tour rehearsals start on Saturday! April 30 and May 7, 9-11 AM, Promontory gym. See you then!

Auditions for the 2022-23 year will be in August. Stay tuned!

Final rehearsal, a party, and concert info

Hello NUYS!

Can you believe we only have one more rehearsal left for this year?  Time sure flies when you are having fun.  I'm sending this message out early because I need everyone to make sure their schedules are clear for this final rehearsal.  Parents, if you could help us out on this we would appreciate it.  Last week's practice was a struggle because we were missing so many people, and we can't afford to have another one like that right before the concert!  We are also planning to extend the rehearsal a little longer just in case we need to work our a few bugs (practice at home and there won't be as many bugs to fix. 😁)

Here is the schedule for this Saturday:
8:00 - Doors Unlock
8:30-9:00 - Vaugh Williams (winds/brass/percussion can sleep in)
8:45 - Winds/Brass/Percussion arrive
9:00 - 9:30 - Lord of the Rings with Chamber
9:30 - 10:30 - Concert Run Through in concert order:
- Poet and the Peasant
- Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto
- Beethoven Violin Concerto
- American Salute
10:30 - 11:30 - Touch ups as needed.
11:30 - 12:30 - End of the year party!

End of Year Party: Please join us for our end of year celebration! We will be handing out our Senior certificates, maybe play some games, and reminisce about the year.   Please bring snacks to share.

April 25th - Concert: Box Elder High School (380 S 600 W, Brigham City).  Use the main entrance (South-West side of the building) to access the auditorium.  We are still working out where to unpack your cases, so stay tuned for that.  There is plenty of parking around the building.

Schedule has changes slightly. Please make note of the new times:

4:15 - Begin stage setup (I will need help!!)
4:40 - NYUS members on stage! (Dressed in concert attire)
4:45 - 5:15 - Sound check
5:15 - 5:30 - Group Photo
5:30 - 5:45 - Lord of the Rings with Chamber
5:45 - 6:30 - NUYCO Soundcheck and Group Photo
6:30 - House doors open
7:00 - Concert begins
8:45 - Everyone has left the building.

Concert Attire -
  • Gentlemen: Black tux or equivalent suit, white dress shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black shoes.
  • Ladies: Black dress, formal trouser suit, or blouse & skirt, midriff covered, conservative neckline, skirts & dresses at least tea-length, slits no higher than knee, black stockings, black shoes, accessories & trim in black.
  • If you are going to wear a mask (not required) it needs to be solid black.
Folders - Please leave your folder in the black box at the end of the concert (NO EXCEPTIONS).  We have rental music which needs to be returned ASAP, and I will not have the time to hunt down missing folders.  Please do not take them home.

That is all for now...

See you all on Saturday!
