LYS Saturday Report for October 24, 2009

Greetings!
This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, GJulieKay@gmail.com, 435.723.8262. Please contact me with questions or if you need to arrange for an absence or to leave early.

Today's Rehearsal.
Thanks for all your work today. I know viola sectionals were fruitful, and I'm grateful that everyone knows what a double sharp looks like now!

Next Week.
Next Week's schedule is: Auditions 8am (although I think we're about done with that), Rehearsal 8:30 to 11am. The goal is to start rehearsal before 8:30, so please plan to arrive at 8:15am. There may be sectionals again during this rehearsal, so come prepared with your most difficult passages (again)!

Kids Are Music ~ Kids & Christmas ~ Response Needed ~ Save Me a Bunch of Phone Calls!
It looks like we will probably be participating in this concert. It is the annual Kids are Christmas benefit concert on December 7th at the Browning Center at WSU in the Austad Auditorium. We will need everyone's commitment. I have heard from almost everyone.

If you have not RSVP'd please do.
The only thing that's holding us back right now is an absolute commitment from every string player. :) Hopefully you know who you are!

As I said last week, there is a $10 fee per performer to participate. This $10 fee gives each performer two tickets. Additional tickets will be $6 or $6.50 at the box. Last year, the 1.5 hour concert drew a crowd of 1100; they raised a $4000 donation for the Christmas Box House. This year they will be benefiting a different organization, but the idea is the same.

Do You Work at ATK, AutoLiv or Northrup Grumman/Boeing?
If so, your membership fee may qualify for a matching funds donation to the Symphonic Society. Please let us know!

Are You Getting Ready for the Holidays?
Why not buy grocery certificates for Kent's or Smith's before your shop? Or consider giving the practical gift: A gift card to the grocery store! Please let me know if you are interested and I will give your name to our grocery certificate person.

Violinists
Don't forget to entice your violinist friends to Come Play With Us!

Concerto Auditions.
I will be sending times for each audition this week. Please contact me if you are planning on auditioning and I did not give you an information sheet on Saturday.

Practice Hard. The concert is just weeks away!

Kids And Christmas - Response Needed

Greetings!

I appreciate all who have responded about the Kids and Christmas concert on Dec 7th.

Remember, I don't have time to make phone calls, and I need to hear from everyone, so if you haven't hit reply and given me an answer, do it TODAY...

Better yet, do it now!

Thanks!

Julie

Today's Rehearsal.
We are really intrigued by the psychological effects of playing something faster than we have to, then slowing it back to the normal tempo. Suddenly the normal tempo seems not so fast! Keep working like the dickens on the Haydn. We can do it!

Next Week.
Next Week's schedule is: Auditions 8am, Rehearsal 8:30 to 11am. There may be sectionals during this rehearsal, so come prepared with your most difficult passages!

Kids Are Music ~ Kids & Christmas ~ Response Needed ~ Save Me a Bunch of Phone Calls!
We have been invited to participate in the annual Kids are Christmas benefit concert on December 7th at the Browning Center at WSU in the Austad Auditorium. If we do this, we will need everyone's commitment. There is a $10 fee per performer to participate.

So, PLEASE respond to this email with a definite answer. We must respond with a commitment asap. If we can't do it, we need to give the organizers time to find someone else!

USAF Academy Band Concert.
Here's to all 7 of our musicians who participated in the USAF Academy Band concert today at Peery's Egyptian Theater!

Welcome.
We had another audition yesterday: Welcome to Ben Perry on Violin.

Don't forget to entice your violinist friends to Come Play With Us! I know, I know, I know, I know... I sound like a broken record. :)

Music for the concert.
Remember, you have all the music in your folders for whole year. If you are confused as to which pieces we are playing for the Nov 21 concert, click here and scroll down.

Concerto Auditions.
Concerto Auditions are coming right up on Nov 7th! If you have contacted me previously about auditioning, I need to know again so I can give you additional information, set audition times, etc.

Please be sure to approve the music you are planning on playing to make sure our orchestra is able to play it and to make sure the music is available. The board has made a policy that members of the organization may audition for concerto night without a fee; non-members will be charged a fee for auditioning, but the auditions are open to anyone.

The concert will be January 30. We hope to have several students on the program this year, and we are also working on a guest performer.

Thanks for your support!  We love Youth Symphony!

Today's Rehearsal.
Today's rehearsal went well. We discovered all sorts of things we need to work on at home as we rehearsed the music for our upcoming concert. We also really really really really wish we had more violins.

Next Week.
Next Week's schedule is: Auditions 8am, Rehearsal 8:30 to 11am.

Welcome New Musicians.
We had a couple auditions today: Welcome to Daniel Capener on Bass, and Kenneth Capener on Cello.

Don't forget to entice your violinist friends to Come Play With Us! I know I sound like a broken record. :)

Roster.
I have postponed distributing a roster for now. If anyone else has concerns besides those who have already contacted me, please let me know. In the mean time, please contact me if you are looking for a carpool buddy.

Music for the concert.
Today we handed out the music for The Last Spring. All other music has been handed out. If you are missing pieces, let me know. To see the list published last week, click here.
