NUYCO is back!

Welcome to the 2020-21 season of NUYCO!

My name is Josie Anderson and I'm the new Chamber Orchestra Managing Director! I may be familiar to some of you, as I've assisted Jenny Murrow over the last few years. I am very excited to take on a more substantial role and get to know you and your musicians. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. I am always available via email (chamber@northernutahyouthsymphony.org) or text (435.452.8173), and I will answer any calls when I'm able.

We are excited to present a plan to open up our new season! Having had many inquiries regarding the possibility of an upcoming season, we have decided to go ahead with it and proceed with caution. Promontory school is allowing us to use our regular rehearsal space, and we have scheduled our first rehearsal for September 12th. We recognize that there are some who will choose not to join us this fall, or even for the whole year, and we respect that choice. We would love to hear from you, however, if you would like to remain on the email list to keep your future options open.

In order to delay personal contact with each other as long as possible, we will be accepting auditions exclusively online, preferably via uploaded video. Priority deadline for auditions will be Saturday, August 22nd. Auditions will be accepted after that date, and in fact are ongoing throughout the year, but seating may not be optimal since the process of making seating assignments will have already begun. If your musician is going to audition for NUYS instead of NUYCO, please contact me so we can be prepared!

We will do our best to make our rehearsals COVID compliant. We will set up our rehearsal spaces with as much physical distancing as possible. String players will be asked to bring a music stand to facilitate physical distancing by eliminating sharing a stand with a partner. Those who can wear masks without interfering with their health are encouraged, but not required, to do so. Everyone who enters the building will be required to wash or sanitize hands upon arrival; there will be a bottle of sanitizer available if needed, but please plan to bring your own.

The NUYCO Audition page has been updated with new instructions and with audition excerpts. We are looking towards augmenting audition information with sample solo repertoire for those who need suggestions. Since this is not set up yet, please contact us if your student needs suggestions for solo music for their audition.

Thank you!

This year! It's happening!

Greetings!

We are excited to present a plan to open up our 2020-21 season!

Graduates: If you will be in the area, contact us about playing as an adult volunteer! Or, just forward this email to all your friends who would like to play with us! We will miss you!

Everyone else: Having had many inquiries regarding the possibility of an upcoming season, we have decided to go ahead with it, and proceed with caution. Promontory school is allowing us to use our regular rehearsal space, and we have scheduled our first rehearsal for September 12th. Tuition will not be collected until the week after the first rehearsal.

We recognize that there are some who will choose not to join us this fall, or even for the whole year, and we respect that choice. We would love to hear from you, however, if you would like to remain on the email list to keep your future options open. Just reply to this email and let us know.

Those who can wear masks without interfering with their playing or their health are encouraged, but not required, to do so. Everyone entering the building will be required to wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival and we will keep a bottle of sanitizer available, but please plan to bring your own.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to  introduce our new Chamber Orchestra Managing Director! Josie Anderson will be familiar to you since she's been my assistant over the last couple years. She will still be helping me, and will be around more often as she takes on a more substantial role with Chamber. Welcome once again, Josie! You rock!

NUYS Followup... And a Request!

Greetings!

You are all wonderful! How I wish things hadn't ended the way they did for the 2019-2020 season! Going through folders made me sad!

My Request to You:
Could you record yourself, video or audio, for a few seconds or a few minutes, talking about who you are, what you play, and why you love the youth symphony, why you give up sleeping in on Saturday mornings for Classical Music, about the friends you've made, or the great music we've played! Whatever you would say to convince your friends to join!

End your recording with "Come Play With Us!" if you like. ... Then, just send it in to me! I will use clips to make a recruiting video! So Fun!

Photos & Certificates:
If you ordered a photo at Abravanel Hall, you should have received it in the mail by now.

If you are graduating this year, you should have also received a certificate.

Please please let me know if you should have received either a picture or certificate and did not! My greatest anxiety is that I'll miss honoring someone!

If we had been able to perform our concert on April 23, we would have had 25 students lined up across the stage, bidding them farewell as they graduate from High School. We will deeply miss you all!

Adult Volunteers Play for Free:
If you are a graduate and you are still around and would like to play with us, come back as an adult volunteer!

Music Roundup needs to be complete this week:
I drove the long loop Saturday and collected all music folders that had been turned in. I came home and sorted folders, then went through both spreadsheets and checked in everyone's music. THANK YOU to everyone who turned in their folders last week!

There are still 18 folders missing from NUYS and 14 missing from NUYCO.

The Music Roundup will continue for this week, but only at Promontory School 9am to 2 pm, and at my house, 2800 S 1200 W, Perry, anytime.

I will work through the spreadsheet and send personal emails and text messages to all students who have not turned in a folder according to my records, but you probably know if you still have your folder. You have until the end of this week! Thanks ahead of time for your cooperation.

Concerto Auditions:
If you are working on a concerto and plan to audition, I need to know about your intentions asap! Thank You! :)

God bless! Be well! Here's to the possibility of NORMAL!

PS A Bit of History: Here is a link to our OLD OLD OLD recruiting video. The last one we made. It's rather funny, actually! And really OLD! I promise with your help, I'll make a better one!

Postcard to Print and Hand to Friends

Greetings,

Did the Postal Service do its job?

Did you receive your lime green postcard? Awesome!

Here is a sheet of postcards just like that one for you to print and hand to friends when you invite them to Come Play With Us!

To play the best and coolest music, we need more French Horns, more brass in general, more flutes... and, of course, all of you!

Thanks!
~ Julie

Photo Shoot

Today we visited the park right before a thunderstorm and took some pictures for our new poster; we only needed one photo for the poster, but here are few more.

You! Yeah, You!!!

Conductor's workshop for nasal hygiene

I've always wanted a baton through my head!

Where is my baton?
Where is my baton?

Seriously, I can't find it anywhere!

My Baton?

Okay, I think I found it....

Thanks, Ms Dunn, I always wanted a chihuahua named Fiona ... that doesn't like me.

So, in case you were wondering what Mr Dunn is like, now you have a better idea. Maybe.
