Reminders and Stuff

Greetings!

Who Is This?
First, whoever gave me the Texas Roadhouse Gift Cards for the Silent Auction, THANK YOU, but I'm not sure who it was! Duh! Please tell me who you are so you get 2 entries into the $100 drawing!

Gala Tickets
We (Read: Julie and Doris) are getting nervous (seems like an annual thing) about ticket sales for the Gala (April 9, 6 pm, BC Senior Center, $15). With the deadline for the caterer looming, we need to sell about 120 more tickets before next Tuesday.

Can you help? I have set up a Facebook event so it's easy for you to spread the word. If you don't have enough tickets, go ahead and collect money, turn it in to Josie on Saturday and pick up tickets then.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, ask your student for the envelope in their folder with tickets and instructions. Tickets are numbered. All unsold tickets must be returned before the event.

Thanks!

Here is the Facebook event link. I even spent $11 and "boosted" the post. Never have I done such a strange thing!

Silent Auction
If you are negotiating with your employer (like Sydnee did with Papa Murphy's) or another business for a silent auction item, it's not too late! Go for it! Here is the letter that we have been using to convince people to donate.

Frankly, I'm embarrassed to say, I don't think I've shared this letter with enough people, but it works. Here's Proof: Check out the updated list of silent auction items here. It's all in one post. I've been updating it.

Rehearsal Schedule
Reminder that this Saturday's rehearsal is only 8 to 10 am. Please be early, and come ready to focus and work hard. :)

Oh, and thanks for the great Basket Response last Saturday. When you read through the list below, if I have your item in the wrong category, let me know. Also, two of the groups.... well, they need more STUFF, and it's not hard to get more than NOTHING, so bring something! :)

Baskets and Silent Auction

Hi!

Just wanted to keep the energy flowing for the fundraiser. I know it's a busy time, but if you can take a minute and think through this, it will make my job a lot easier!

All silent auction and basket items are being stored at my house, so you can bring them tomorrow. So far, most items have been collected by board members, and we are not eligible for the $100 prize! I think I have 5 items that have been collected for the silent auction by students. Your odds are really high for winning the $100 prize, but I'd like to see more competition!

I have created a blog post with pictures of auction items which I will update with additional items as they come in. It's on the website. Here is the link. I will try and keep this updated, but there are already items that need to be added, so keep checking back! Eventually I'll also add basket collections... :)

Reminder for baskets. Here is a list including items that have been donated for each basket. If there is nothing under a specific section I have not received anything for that basket yet. If it's a perishable food item, please hold off and bring it on April 9th, if possible (but I don't mind knowing ahead of time what you are bringing).
Chamber Orchestra:
Violin 1 and Viola -- Chocolate Lovers
Violin 2, Cello and Bass -- Movie Night
Youth Symphony:
Violin 1 -- Camping and Outdoors
Corn Popper for Campfire, Stovetop or Fireplace
Storm-proof matches
Insulated folding picnic basket, hot pink!
Violin 2 (odd folder #s) -- Game Night
Violin 2 (even folder #s) -- Summer Fun
Water Balloon Kit
Sidewalk Chalk (x2)
Extra Large Beach Tote
Shark Beach Ball
Viola & Bass -- Man Cave
Cello -- Kitchen
Woodwinds -- Salon "Pamper Me"
Brass & Percussion -- Disney
So, as you can see, we are in need of massive participation! We had so much fun with the drawing, right? :)

Thanks to everyone that has sold tickets. There are still over 100 seats available. Please support this effort if you can, and if people can't come, ask for a donation instead. That counts for the ticket sales contest as well!

Thanks,
Julie

PS We are also serving dinner at Box Elder High School to the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra on May 20 when they come for tour. This will also be a fundraiser for our group. Please let me know if you are interested in helping.

If you have read this far, come tell me tomorrow so I can applaud you!

Gala Tickets

A message from Josie Anderson:

Checks for Gala Tickets should be made out to LBSS.

Thanks!

And from me:

If you haven't told me what you're planning to do for transportation to and from Abravanel Hall, please do so! Here is a link to the handy-dandy form. Or text me. Or reply to this email. Or use the form because it's cool. :)

Till Saturday,

Have a great week!

NUYS Gala Fundraiser

This email is about the upcoming fundraiser. Another email will be sent about Abravanel Hall.

The Gala Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction (which is scheduled for April 9, 2016, 6 pm, Brigham City Senior Center, 24 N 300 W, $15 per plate) helps fund the general operating expenses of the organization. It's also a fun evening with live music, a silent auction, and a raffle.

Please find some way to contribute to this effort, even if you cannot attend.

There are two areas we need help with right now. One is ticket sales, and one is getting donations for the silent auction.

Gala Tickets

Josie Anderson (from the LBSS board) stopped in today to hand out Gala Fundraiser Tickets. She gave each family 4 tickets to sell, and a letter of explanation. Please ask your musicians about this! They really did take them home if they were there today. :)

There is a $25 prize for the musician who sells the most tickets from each orchestra.

Gala Silent Auction

Baskets -- There will be nine theme-baskets at the silent auction this year, each put together by different sections of the orchestra. We had a rather boisterous drawing today to determine the theme for each basket. Please bring your basket contribution to Saturday rehearsal anytime between now and the gala.

Here are the results of said boisterous drawing:
Chamber Orchestra:
Violin 1 and Viola -- Chocolate Lovers
Violin 2, Cello and Bass -- Movie Night
Youth Symphony:
Violin 1 -- Camping and Outdoors
Violin 2 (odd folder #s) -- Game Night
Violin 2 (even folder #s) -- Summer Fun
Viola & Bass -- Man Cave
Cello -- Kitchen
Woodwinds -- Salon "Pamper Me"
Brass & Percussion -- Disney

Other Silent Auction donations
There will be a drawing for $100 Visa Gift Card, with one entry for every silent auction donation. So if you get 5 silent auction donations, you get 5 entries into the $100 drawing!

We are working on a collaborative spreadsheet so you can see which businesses have been contacted so we don't duplicate our efforts. A link will be sent.

Thanks!

Julie

We perform in the afternoon session which runs 1:30 to 4:30.

There will be a bus, and we will need help with large instrument transportation. We will probably schedule it to arrive early enough to "do lunch" at City Creek.

The schedule will be made available soon. Please send me a reply if you are wanting to chaperon or help with transportation.

Saturday's Gala News Flash

Dear Wonderful People,

Josie the Ticket Maven here again, hopefully for the last time. :)

We had an extraordinary amount of money turned in today! I, along with all of the other board members, were very impressed and pleased with your success. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You have all done so well that we are SOLD OUT for the gala on Saturday! If you have made prior arrangements to turn in money (i.e., if you and I have set up a separate appointment, you have committed to bring it to rehearsal, etc.), please continue in those plans.

However, if you have not told me that you are going to give me more money, please don't! We won't be able to feed that many people.

If you bring money on Saturday like we talked about, please give it to Julie as I will not be there.

Again, if you have questions, concerns, etc., please email me at josie.anderson57@gmail.com or call/text to (435) 452-8173. Thanks!

Tickets are $15 each and you should all have at least 4 which you are responsible for either by turning them in or turning in the money for them. Please, please, please sell them. The LAST DAY POSSIBLE for returning the money to me is Tuesday, March 10. I will be at Promontory School for the NUYCO rehearsal, and you can meet me there at 5 PM to give me your ticket money. If that doesn't work for you, please use a form of contact information below and we can arrange to meet at another time. Thanks!

Gala Fundraiser -- What? Why?

Dear Wonderful People,

We are all getting over our Abravanel Hall [Jet] Lag, but I have to bug you again.

A week from this Saturday -- March 14 -- is our Gala Fundraiser, Silent Auction, Dinner, Raffle, and all-around wonderful evening. There is a string quartet playing live music adding ambiance during the meal, which is catered by Iron Gate Catering, and they do a wonderful job making us feel elegant in a less-than-elegant setting.

Everyone in the orchestra has been given four tickets to sell. If everyone could sell at least two by Saturday, we would have this thing off the ground and running, but there are not enough tickets sold yet! We can't do it without you. :)

Additional entertainment will include a performance by the Chamber Orchestra, and an encore performance of Josh Austin and Jaquell Taylor's Vivaldi cello concerto.

(The Youth Symphony is too big for the venue -- although I just had a vision of everyone in a circle around the outer edge of the room, performing "in the round" for the dinner guests... Maybe next year!)

This is an event that you can feel confident inviting your neighbors and friends to; we always get great feedback from people who come.

Why do we do it? We began this tradition when one of our grants disappeared (The Marie Eccles Caine foundation split and changed their direction), and we were desperate for funding.

What we found: The foundations love that we are able to show so much community support for our organization and they have become more generous! However, part of the reason they are generous is because we show that support through this dinner.

I know that there are conflicts that day, and I know that not everyone will be able to come, or can afford tickets, but there are alternate ways to support the endeavor. Here are some ideas:

Sell tickets to neighbors, or to your grandparents, aunts and uncles, even if they live far away (and let us know if they won't be attending so we can adjust the meal numbers accordingly).

Donate something, or find a business to donate, to the silent auction. The best stuff is new, unused, or a gift card for something.

Buy raffle tickets. They are a dollar. Need not be present to win. More info Saturday...

Volunteer. Help with decorations or clean-up.

If you are student helping bus tables, your meal is on us. If you are performing, your ticket is only $8, the approximate cost of the meal.

Come to the dinner! Bring in Silent Auction or cash donations! Sell Tickets! Enter the Raffle! Volunteer!

It's really a lovely evening in addition to helping a great cause.

[Silent Auction Items can be turned in to me at rehearsal!]

Thanks,
Julie

Gala Dinner Ticket Sales -- the Gala is March 14, 6pm.
Ticket packets for the Gala were handed out Saturday. If you still need one, ask Josie Anderson. She will have chocolate for everyone who brings ticket money this Saturday, and a king sized candy bar for the person who turns in the most money. She will do this each week until March 7th. You are responsible for your tickets, to either sell them and turn in the money, or return the tickets to Josie.
Silent Auction
We are also doing a silent auction, but not quite as big as last year's. We probably don't need a donation from every family, but we still need help from most. We are looking for nice, new items, preferably donated from businesses in the Tremonton, Brigham, Logan and Ogden area.
Thanks!

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who chose to be involved with the fundraiser in any way. We appreciate your support, and we hope you had an enjoyable evening, even though we see all sorts of things we could have done differently, we also enjoyed the evening and were overwhelmed by the show of support.

When we get final numbers of how much money was raised, we will let you know.

With gratitude,
Warmly,
Julie Gardner in behalf of the LBSS Board and the LYS and LYCO staff

Fundraiser

Greetings!

Okay, I have been remiss in bugging you about this. My fault. So here goes. This is really an enjoyable evening, with the silent auction, and also fresh bread and other door prizes.

If you haven't turned in a Silent Auction item or purchased Gala tickets, there's still time. Email or text me (435.740.4335) if you sell more tickets so we can coordinate with the caterer. If you bring a silent auction item next week, we can still include it at the dinner that night.

My latest: Cover Up is donating a Box Elder hoodie and a Bear River hoodie! They are so cool. :)

Look around your house. See if there is something nice, and new, you can donate to the auction, or think it through and see if there is a service you can donate.

Please support the fundraiser if you can.

Abravanel Hall + Gala Dinner

Greetings!

Abravanel Hall:
I just sent reminders to people who had not yet filled out the online form. Now I am reminding everyone to bring the paper permission slip this Saturday! Remember, there will be fresh homemade bread there for all who have already turned in permission slips, or who bring them this Saturday! (Aren't food bribes great?)

FAQ: Can parents come watch the performance at Abravanel Hall?
Yes, you can, but realize that there are only so many seats in the hall, and if you try to come to the whole festival, you may not get a seat, so come occupy our seats when we head for the warm-up room at 10:10 am. Just tell the ushers which group you are with, and they will tell you where to sit (it's right down front, like row 3).

Gala Dinner
Please be aware that the tickets sold for the Gala will be counted each week. Once we have sold a total (between both orchestras) of 200 tickets, the dinner will be sold out. Buy them while you can! They're going fast! Remember, if people can't go, let them know donations count towards the contest as well. :)

Anyone have a solo or ensemble they'd like to perform for the entertainment at the dinner? We need a number or two! Let me know.

Silent Auction items, at least one per family, are due by the end of next week (March 1), if at all possible.

More info is in an awesome long email I sent in January. Here is a link to the post on the blog.

Still looking for more string quartet volunteers for the Star Spangled Banner gig on Feb 25. :)

Thanks!
Julie

01 February 2013

The Gala Dinner is On Its Way!

Greetings!

The Gala Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction is coming up! In fact, it is just four weeks away, March 2, 2013, 6pm, at the Brigham City Community Center.

Tickets
Tickets are $15 per plate. Each ticket includes a fabulous Iron Gate Grill meal, live musical entertainment, and admission to our fun silent auction. We have asked each student to sell four tickets, and if they don't have their ticket sales materials yet, they will very soon. There are incentives to sell -- chocolate for those who bring money each week, bigger chocolate for those who bring the most that week, and a $25 gift card for the student who brings in the most money (this is for ticket sales and cash donations combined). It's okay to offer tickets to people who might not come, but might donate. People tend to be very kind, and very supportive.

Silent Auction
In addition, we ask each family to secure at least one donation for the silent auction. This can be from a company or business where you have a connection, or you can just go butter up the manager of your favorite restaurant and hand him/her a letter! Handmade items are also greatly appreciated. It's great to see things at the silent auction that we buy anyway, like an oil change, but when we buy things from the silent auction, we are supporting a great cause at the same time!

I have attached the donation request letter in case you need more copies than the ones I already handed out (if you are reading this on the blog, contact me and I'll send you what you need). Feel free to add your name to the letter so I don't end up with phone calls from people I didn't know I'd handed it to! :) It also has the tax number on it, which people want for their taxes, since they write off their donations.

Collaboration
I have created a special spreadsheet that we can all access. HERE IT IS. CLICK HERE. It will help us not all bug the same businesses! I have had a lot of success just making myself spend a little time. Like tonight, I submitted several donation requests by just going online, finding instructions, and following them. You are all so creative. You will have more ideas than I have had. If you want to know what I did, check out THE LINK to the spreadsheet! It's there for you to put in your name and who you've contacted, and then return to it when you get an answer or an item, and add that to the records. It's also fun to check it out and see what has been donated so we can look forward to the fun of the silent auction!

Let's see if we can make a nice big pile of stuff for the auction by bringing donations to next week's concert! If you don't have your donation by next week, that's okay. You can bring it to any rehearsal, or drop it off at my house. It would be best if we have all donations by the Saturday before the gala. That's February 23. (Or the following Tuesday for LYCO students, February 26.)

Previous Donations
I've had a lot of questions about procuring these donations, so I am including a list below so you can see which businesses and people donated last year, or other years. This is not the collaborative list, however, so be sure to check it before we all bug the same people! I've included some notes on some items.

Here is a shout-out to all the support we've had over the years. We are so incredibly grateful! And we thank you, the families, for your gracious support as well! :)
