Last Minute Details for Abravanel Hall

If you need to read over the info again (which you should all do tonight!) here is the page with all the info. Below, I've tried to answer all the questions people have asked me separately.

Clothing
Wear your concert black all day. Just wear it. I know. I hear ya. Wear it anyway.

Food
If you bring food, make it all disposable, and only bring water to drink. NO eating in the auditorium!

Call time
Arrival deadline for those not coming to the full session is at least 15 minutes  BEFORE we go to the green room (that's after you find parking!). Our green room time is 3 pm, and our performance time is 3:30 pm. Our students who perform in Ogden Youth will walk around the back of the stage and re-enter the stage for the Ogden Youth performance at 4:00. If we finish our pictures before they are finished performing, be sure to only walk in between numbers, and sit quietly while they finish. Don't try to pack up your instrument until after their performance is over!

Cellos on the bus
On the bus, we have enough room on the bus that we will not be taking a separate van with cellos. Each person bringing a cello will have a seat for the cello on the bus. We are also working out hauling two basses in a van for the two people bringing basses and riding the bus. Small instruments can also go on the bus, and large brass instruments can go in the storage under the bus.

Bus Stops & The Wonderful Mom on the Bus
Please be at your bus location (if you're riding the bus) early. Ms Jenn Dabb (Tanner the horn player's mom) will be riding the bus and checking people off as they get on. If you are curious about where the bus is (It's hard to tell what time it's going to be places), here is her number - 435.730.1876.

Re=Read the Info!
See you all down there! Be sure to re-read the info for tomorrow (yes, I'm making you re-read it and here's the link to the PDF if you don't want the link to the webpage which is above) so that you know where we are sitting and where our large instruments go and where our cases go. The requirements are from the fire marshall. It makes no difference to me if other groups follow the rules, but we will follow the rules. Fill the rows, like walk all the way to the middle and the end of the row, and put your cases in front of you.

Remind
If you do not receive texts from me through remind, you'll want to sign up tonight since tomorrow the only way I will have to contact all of you at once is through that. It comes as a text from a funny phone number - 605-370-5906. I've sent out a couple dozen this year, and if you haven't received any, text "@nuys" (without the quotation marks) to 81010. Then you will receive messages if I need to send them ( for instance, last year our seating rows changed at the last moment... I sent a remind for that)

Audience
Spectators are welcome at Abravanel Hall! There are designated rows for them on the info sheet (linked at the top of this email). There is NO CHARGE. Admission is FREE. You can just attend our time slot, but you should plan to be early since sometimes the festival runs early.

See you all tomorrow! Read the info!

And travel safely!

This Saturday's Rehearsal + Abravanel Hall Notes

Greetings!

This Saturday's rehearsal will not include sectionals. We will begin the day with the Narnia and Mr Dunn will let you know the order from there. He will likely work on things and then come back to them.

I still have a few people who have not let me know what their plans are for Monday. I hope to have everything work out well! If you're still in deciding mode, just realize that even if you come for just the performance, you are important to us! I'll likely still be bugging a few people on Saturday.

Monday's schedule is still as it was last week. That is, we go to the Green Room at 3, perform at 3:30, and the Ogden Youth Symphony performs at 4. Sorry to Ogden Youth players! I tried.

If you need to see the info again, here is the PDF. Couple of things to note: Bring a lunch. Brown bag style. For drinks, only WATER.

Thank you all so much for being awesome!

:)

Two More Things - Parking at Logan High, and a Question re: Abravanel Hall

1. Logan High has another activity (a regional basketball game) that starts at 5 pm tomorrow. They are asking us and our guests to park WEST of the school in the WEST parking lot. Please pass this info on to your guests coming to the concert. West Parking lot, only in marked parking spaces.

2. Q... Do I need to fill out the permission form?
A... I need a 100% response rate for Abravanel Hall. If I do not receive a permission slip either online or paper from you by tomorrow, I will be contacting each person individually to find out his or her plans. I need everyone accounted for. The slip not only tells me whether or not your are participating, it tells me what your transportation plans are. Refer to previous email for all the relevant links, or refer to the website. All emails post to the blog, which is the front page.

There are two versions. The WAV file is "lossless," so if you are going to burn a CD, use that one. The MP3 file is what you would use on your phone or ipod type player.

Cheers!

Agenda for Abravanel Hall -- And Turning In Music

I failed to tell you something important!!!

Yesterday I needed to announce that ALL music folders will be collected after tomorrow's performance. If you do not use your folder on stage, you may hand it to me before going to the green room. Having all the music tomorrow will help me so much! Please be sure to bring your folders. If you have other music (not NUYS) in your folders, take it out of the folder tonight!

And here is the rest of the stuff, which is just repetition (you should already know this) but it has been combined between both hand-outs.

Ø  10.45 a.m. Begin loading bus @ Perry Walmart 1200 South Commerce Way; Use North East corner area of the parking lot.
There will be a vehicle there to load Basses and Cellos. This will give plenty of space for people on the bus. (Thanks, Valerie Neslen, for volunteering)

Ø  11:00 a.m. Leave Perry Walmart

Ø  11:15-11:20 a.m. Pick up students in Farr West at the
Park & Ride (@ 1850 W & 2700 N, across from Maverik)

Ø  11:30-11:35 a.m. Pick up students in Riverdale at the Park & Ride on the east side of the freeway north of 5600 S; official address, 5234 S Freeway Park Road, Roy 84405

Ø  12:15 p.m. Arrive to Abravanel Hall. (The morning session does not end until 12:30, so we cannot bring instruments in to Abravanel Hall yet. Carry small instruments with you to the mall; the vehicle with the large instruments will meet us at Abravanel Hall after we eat). We will go to the food court at City Creek. Either bring a lunch, or some money for food.
No wandering off; stay in the food court!

Be back to Abravanel Hall by 1:15 p.m. Our NUYS assigned seating is in rows 17 and 19; place instruments in seats in front of you, rows 16 and 18. Large Instrument cases go in the back, in row 34. Parents: rows are 28-30 are for spectators.

Ø  1:30 p.m. American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic (with Megan Brasher!)

Ø  2:00 p.m. Davis Youth Symphony
(This is when we warm up in the Green Room.)

Ø  2:30 p.m. Northern Utah Youth Symphony performance

Ø  3:00 p.m. Utah Youth Philharmonic
(This is when we have our group picture on the grand staircase.)
Bring $15 check or cash if you want to order an 8x10 picture. Make checks payable to Patrick Webster.

Ø  3:30 p.m. Utah Youth Symphony

Ø  4:00 p.m. Young Artist Chamber Players

Ø  4:30 p.m. Load the bus. Leave Salt Lake by 4:45 p.m.

Ø  5:30 p.m. Arrive at Riverdale Park & Ride

Ø  5:45 p.m. Arrive at Farr West Park & Ride

Ø  6:00 p.m. Arrive at Walmart

v  These times will depend on traffic and unforeseeable events, so we'll need to be flexible. Parents, please arrive for pick-up a few minutes early just in case, or keep in touch via cell phone.

Additional Notes:

Your job is to be the best audience you can be for the other orchestras. Stay in the auditorium and listen to the performances. No chatting. No electronic gadgets, please. Hear something you like? Write it down! Maybe we can play it sometime! We have been included with the very best youth orchestras in the state, because, well, look at us! I'm sure you will enjoy their music!

All performances are recorded. You want your recording to be great! Don't do anything that will affect the other recordings.

Clothing: Please be sure to wear the "uniform" of the orchestra. This includes a black suit coat, white shirt, and BLACK BOW TIE! Yes, men, I'm talking to you! :)

See you all tomorrow!

Abravanel Hall

So, thanks to everyone who brought their permission slips today! That was wonderful! I still do not have everyone's information, however.

If you still need to turn in your permission slip, please fill out the following online form so I can figure out what additional drivers and volunteers we need. If you are riding the bus at all, I still need your permission slip next week!

Click here for the form. I had fun putting it together; I hope it works! :)

Thanks!

NUYS Rocks!

Is that okay? To say Classical Music rocks? I hope so! Thanks for a great concert. I think when we play hard John Williams movie music we get all sorts of applause. What do you think?

Thanks for that Gliere music! Makes me so happy! It's all accounted for. I just can't tell you how relieved I am.

I owe several people a prize for perfect attendance on this last concert. Sorry I overlooked that little extra today. I know who you are, though, so I'll throw candy bars next Saturday.

Yes, we have rehearsal next week. Abravanel Hall is soon!

And here is the link to the proper handout that I should have printed today, but printed the wrong one. This one has the right info.

I need your permission slips (bottom half, second page), so I know what you are doing that day, and whether or not you are riding the bus (or whether you are not sure). Please have them by next Saturday, Feb 27.

Please make this happen. Print it off and fill it out and turn it in. Thanks!

Have a great weekend. I love this group! You are all wonderful. :)

Gala Dinner Ticket Sales -- the Gala is March 14, 6pm.

She will have chocolate for everyone who brings ticket money this Saturday, and a king sized candy bar for the person who turns in the most money. She will do this each week until March 7th. We are also doing a silent auction, but not quite as big as last year's. We probably don't need a donation from every family, but we still need help from most. We are looking for nice, new items, preferably donated from businesses in the Tremonton, Brigham, Logan and Ogden area.

19 February 2014

Abravanel Hall + Gala Dinner

Greetings!

Abravanel Hall:
I just sent reminders to people who had not yet filled out the online form. Now I am reminding everyone to bring the paper permission slip this Saturday! Remember, there will be fresh homemade bread there for all who have already turned in permission slips, or who bring them this Saturday! (Aren't food bribes great?)

FAQ: Can parents come watch the performance at Abravanel Hall?
Yes, you can, but realize that there are only so many seats in the hall, and if you try to come to the whole festival, you may not get a seat, so come occupy our seats when we head for the warm-up room at 10:10 am. Just tell the ushers which group you are with, and they will tell you where to sit (it's right down front, like row 3).

Gala Dinner
Please be aware that the tickets sold for the Gala will be counted each week. Once we have sold a total (between both orchestras) of 200 tickets, the dinner will be sold out. Buy them while you can! They're going fast! Remember, if people can't go, let them know donations count towards the contest as well. :)

Anyone have a solo or ensemble they'd like to perform for the entertainment at the dinner? We need a number or two! Let me know.

Silent Auction items, at least one per family, are due by the end of next week (March 1), if at all possible.

More info is in an awesome long email I sent in January. Here is a link to the post on the blog.

Still looking for more string quartet volunteers for the Star Spangled Banner gig on Feb 25. :)

Thanks!
Julie
