Concert Wrap-Up, Lost and Found, Tour Update - NUYCO

Hi families, what a fabulous concert. Thanks for everything you did to help us. If you volunteered your time either setting up or striking the stage, please let me know so we can track the volunteer hours!

Please read the following two paragraphs to your NUYCO members.

From me (Josie): Wow, could we have ended the season any better than we did? You had the chance to play with NUYS *and* earn a standing ovation. My favorite part of the entire night (I had so many favorites but this was the top) was watching each of you soak in the standing ovation. I could almost see you thinking, "Woah, this is for me because I did something really cool. They really liked my music." You're right, they did. Fantastic job.

From Maestro: Great concert! Wonderful way to cap off a great season. For those not going on tour, have a great summer. I look forward to seeing your auditions, whether for NUYCO or NUYS. For those going on tour, we're back at it at 9:00 AM on Saturday, in the gym, reviewing opera concert music!

Lost and found items from the concert (see attached photos)...
- Brave Theater Company (Bountiful High School) t-shirt - I found this in my bag after the concert, but it is not my shirt. Haha.
- Gray girls coat, two rows of buttons.
- Black cashmere scarf left at Logan High School in February.
- The button, shoes, and microfiber cloth were found together in the NUYCO section of the balcony. The water bottle owner has been found. :)

Tour rehearsals start on Saturday! April 30 and May 7, 9-11 AM, Promontory gym. See you then!

Auditions for the 2022-23 year will be in August. Stay tuned!

Final rehearsal, a party, and concert info

Hello NUYS!

Can you believe we only have one more rehearsal left for this year?  Time sure flies when you are having fun.  I'm sending this message out early because I need everyone to make sure their schedules are clear for this final rehearsal.  Parents, if you could help us out on this we would appreciate it.  Last week's practice was a struggle because we were missing so many people, and we can't afford to have another one like that right before the concert!  We are also planning to extend the rehearsal a little longer just in case we need to work our a few bugs (practice at home and there won't be as many bugs to fix. 😁)

Here is the schedule for this Saturday:
8:00 - Doors Unlock
8:30-9:00 - Vaugh Williams (winds/brass/percussion can sleep in)
8:45 - Winds/Brass/Percussion arrive

9:30 - 10:30 - Concert Run Through in concert order:
- Poet and the Peasant
- Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto
- Beethoven Violin Concerto
- American Salute
10:30 - 11:30 - Touch ups as needed.
11:30 - 12:30 - End of the year party!

End of Year Party: Please join us for our end of year celebration! We will be handing out our Senior certificates, maybe play some games, and reminisce about the year.   Please bring snacks to share.

April 25th - Concert: Box Elder High School (380 S 600 W, Brigham City).  Use the main entrance (South-West side of the building) to access the auditorium.  We are still working out where to unpack your cases, so stay tuned for that.  There is plenty of parking around the building.

Schedule has changes slightly. Please make note of the new times:

4:15 - Begin stage setup (I will need help!!)
4:40 - NYUS members on stage! (Dressed in concert attire)
4:45 - 5:15 - Sound check
5:15 - 5:30 - Group Photo
5:30 - 5:45 - Lord of the Rings with Chamber
5:45 - 6:30 - NUYCO Soundcheck and Group Photo
6:30 - House doors open
7:00 - Concert begins
8:45 - Everyone has left the building.

Concert Attire -
  • Gentlemen: Black tux or equivalent suit, white dress shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black shoes.
  • Ladies: Black dress, formal trouser suit, or blouse & skirt, midriff covered, conservative neckline, skirts & dresses at least tea-length, slits no higher than knee, black stockings, black shoes, accessories & trim in black.
  • If you are going to wear a mask (not required) it needs to be solid black.
Folders - Please leave your folder in the black box at the end of the concert (NO EXCEPTIONS).  We have rental music which needs to be returned ASAP, and I will not have the time to hunt down missing folders.  Please do not take them home.

That is all for now...

See you all on Saturday!

Tomorrow's rehearsal

Howdy Folks!

Sorry this message is coming a little later than normal.  I hope everyone has had a wonderful Spring Break.  Here is our schedule for tomorrow:

- 8:00: Doors unlocked, help set up.  I need some extra hands today to set up a bunch of extra chairs.
- 8:30: In your chair, ready to play! No sectionals
8:30 - 9:00: Poet and the Peasant
9:00 - 9:30: Lord of the Rings with NUYCO (why we need to set up extra chairs)
9:30 - 10:00 American Salute
10:00 - 10:30: Beethoven with Mr. West (trombones and tuba are excused)
10:30 - 11:00: Vaugh Williams (rest of winds/brass/percussion are excused)
- 11:00: Help clean up.

Strings -  You must, must, MUST take time and listen to the Vaughan Williams Oboe concerto.  This piece is the least polished and we only have three rehearsals left.  We don't have time to learn notes and rhythms in rehearsal, that is your responsibility to do at home, but using the recording is going to help speed up this process.  It is such a gorgeous piece, so let us do all we can to make it the very best.

You are all marvelous, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your spring break.

Upcoming Important Dates:
April 25th - Concert @ Box Elder High School, 7:00 pm.  Sound check is at 5:00 pm, Call time 4:45 pm.

See you tomorrow!

TOUR: Please either 1) pay a deposit (at least $15) AND give me the tour permission form OR 2) pay in full AND give me the tour permission form on Saturday!! I will be sending out reminders next week and would love to not have to contact a lot of you. If neither of those options work for you or if you are confused, please reach out and we can chat! If you have already paid and given me the form, disregard this.

Also, I need to know the following, unless you have given me the permission form already. If you have told me in passing, please tell me again!
- if parents are planning on coming on tour and staying with us
- if siblings are coming (strongly discouraged but open for discussion)
- if parents would like to sleep at the West home (siblings sleep elsewhere) - Mitchells and Richardsons, I already know about you

Last but not least... NUYCO members have a chance to perform a solo of their choosing, something they've been working on and have mastered, at our performance on tour. We will perform as a group from 11-11:30 and then there will be a recital with individual performances. If you are interested in performing, please let me know what you would like to perform!
