Hello! What a wonderful pre-holiday send off today. Thanks to all the parents and members who helped!

We had some dishes left behind... Let me know if any of these are yours!

Have a wonderful holiday break. See you on January 8!

Rehearsal and Christmas Party! - NUYCO

Hello families! We have a normal rehearsal on Saturday, 9:30-11:00 AM. Suggested practice spots...
  1. American Fiddler's Hoedown
  2.  first three selections from Fiddler on the Roof
  3. Saturday Night Waltz (reviewing what we covered last week)
After rehearsal, please stay for our Christmas party! 11:15-12:15 or so. It is not required, of course, but it will be a lot of fun and a great way to get to know each other. NUYS and NUYCO will be combined.

- Bring an appropriate wrapped white elephant gift. No need to buy anything - just your junk that could be someone else's treasure.

- You are welcome to bring a snack/treat/protein offering to share. Especially protein offerings! Cheese and crackers, nuts, sausages, meatballs, etc. Otherwise it could turn into a sugar-fest! This is not necessary, only if you would like. One NUYCO member asked about any allergies last week - I know we have a peanut allergy in NUYCO, but the party is combined with NUYS and I'm not sure about their allergies. There will be lots of options. Bring whatever you have on hand or would like to share.

- We will eat, do the white elephant gift exchange, and play a game or two. You are welcome to leave at any point, or not attend if you are unavailable.

See you on Saturday! As always, please fill out the attendance form below if you will be gone. This is much more reliable than texting me ... but I will accept that as well! We just like to know who to expect. :)

Rehearsal and Updates - NUYCO

Hello families! We have a regular rehearsal on Saturday. Hope to see you there. If you will not attend, please fill out the attendance form so we do not worry about where you are! :)

I sent out a new copy of Saturday Night Waltz to you on Monday. Let me know if you didn't get it!

We need parent volunteers to help at our Christmas party on December 18! We need treat and protein offerings, as well as parent volunteers to set up and clean up. Find the sign-up here. Or simply text or email me that you would like to help and I will add you to the list. :)

For the Christmas party, we will have a white elephant exchange game. Please bring a wrapped item to trade! This does not need to be something you buy. It's your junk that could become someone's treasure! It must be appropriate (no indecency allowed).

See you on Saturday!

Rehearsal! - NUYCO

Hello families! What a wonderful concert on Friday. I had so many people tell me how incredible and "top-level" NUYCO sounded. I remember going to NUYCO and NUYS concerts when my brother was in the symphony and I don't think NUYCO ever sounded like they do now. Quite an accomplishment!

Just a reminder that we do have rehearsal on Saturday! 9:30-11:00 AM at Promontory School. We'll be handing out new music! See you then!

Lost ring - NUYCO

Hi families!

The attached picture is of a ring that was found in the Promontory library earlier this week. The school wondered if it belonged to someone in our group? Let me know!

See you on Saturday, 9:30-11:00 AM. I will not be there. Let me know if you need anything from me!

Weekly Info - NUYCO

Hi families! We had a blast at the retreat. We missed the members who couldn't come, but we'll catch you next year! We also handed out t-shirts, either at the retreat or Saturday's rehearsal. Wear them around, show them off, recruit more players! :)

NUYCO Photo Album: Here are a few videos and pictures I took at the retreat! Check them out. It gives you a look at the 24 hours of semi-organized chaos. :) Photos from future rehearsals, parties, and concerts will also be added here.

Youtube Playlist: Maestro has uploaded full piece recordings of this concert's pieces. It may be helpful to listen to them when you practice!

Attendance Form: Please let me know if you won't be attending rehearsal! We base our rehearsal plans around the members who attend; if we plan sectionals and then the entire cello section is absent (without letting me know), we have a big problem! Here's a handy dandy link to the attendance form. Fill it out for the whole year. Or the night before. I don't really care. Just please fill it out. :) The link is always at the bottom of every email, as well!

Concert: The first concert is scheduled for November 12 at 7 PM at Ogden High School. Save the date! More info, of course, will be coming about parking, location, schedule, etc.

See you on Saturday, 9:30-11 AM!

Retreat, Concert time, extra rehearsal date - NUYS

1. Volunteers: I need another dad to stay overnight at the retreat. Thanks to all who have signed up to help! Please look at the volunteer spreadsheet for more opportunities... We also need a few more people to sign up for (or just bring!) Saturday afternoon snacks for the retreat.

2. The concert time is about to be solidified at 7 pm on Friday November 12. If that's a problem for anyone as far as getting to the concert and performing with us (call time will be earlier!), SPEAK NOW or FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE. I have asked several times now, but I'm just checking one more time before publicity kicks in.

3. Just a heads-up: the date of an extra practice for this concert, if we decide to set one up, will be TUESDAY, November 9th (not Thursday as originally anticipated).

I'll be in touch if I think of anything else!

Retreat info including links to the roommate form, and google maps to the camp.

Retreat
Our retreat is two weeks away on 22 and 23 October! For those of you who are new, we take a 24 hour time-out at a camp with amenities.

Yes, bathrooms. Flush toilets. Showers. They feed us, and we use the lodge for rehearsal space. Chances to play games, get to know each other, and just enjoy the time away, and also have 3 intensive rehearsals for the upcoming concert!  It takes the place of our regular Saturday morning rehearsal.

Many of you have already paid the $60 (this just covers the cost - the money goes straight to the camp).  There are heated cabins, four with 10 beds each, and four with 6 beds each. There are safe places to keep your instrument, and the lodge is heated, even overnight for those with large instruments.

We need at least 2 adult women, and at least 2 adult men to come as chaperones to keep tabs on all the crazy musicians (just kidding - they do sleep at night!). Your overnight fee ($30) is covered, but we ask you to pay for whatever meals you eat with us. If you can't come for the whole time but can at least come overnight, we can also accommodate your schedule.

Please see the linked PDF for all the details, a chance to request a cabin mate, and a volunteer spreadsheet to sign up for all things NUYS (not just the retreat!).

TShirts, medical forms, etc
Those missing forms etc have been reminded separately.

Thanks, y'all! See ya in the morning!

NUYCO Retreat - one last email

My apologies if you received this twice, once this morning and now. My 7 AM brain had a problem and sent this to last year's NUYCO group. Whoops!

One last email about retreat...

1) Please bring your own music stand if you have one available.

2) Please bring a coat/jacket, gloves, and a hat/beanie! It will be cold and rainy for a good portion of our retreat.

See you TOMORROW, Friday, October 8!

-- Josie Anderson | NUYCO Managing Director

NUYS - Concert Time Request & Other Details

Concert Time - Super Important!
Our concert is scheduled for November 12, which is a Friday, at Ogden High School. I have heard from one student who would need the concert to be later in the evening, at 7pm.  If you have a conflict with the concert being this late, I need to hear from you. This could mean you are in a pit orchestra that night, and you need the concert to be earlier in the evening instead of later.

I strongly request you contact me ASAP regarding any insurmountable conflicts. A reply to this email would be fine.

Additional details
I will be sending additional emails this week regarding missing Shirt Orders (have you ordered yours? If not yet, click here for the t shirt order form).

There are still medical forms needed so I can turn in food restrictions to the camp for retreat, and so we have your info in case of emergency during any other activities. Everyone who hasn't turned one in yet will be contacted separately.

A few haven't taken care of their tuition and payment form. If you are one of those, please bring it Saturday!

Retreat is Oct 22-23. We are going! Yes! If you haven't already decided what you are doing, I need to hear from you. If you can't come to the whole 24 hours (preferred), you can come to part of it. But we have to know your plans, and will adjust your fee accordingly.

A rehearsal plan will be sent separately!

Thanks!
Julie

NUYCO Retreat is on Friday! All the info here

If you are not attending retreat, disregard this email. Do not come to rehearsal on Saturday at Promontory! No one in NUYCO will be there. :)

Hello families! At long last, here is all the info you will need for the retreat THIS FRIDAY! Text (435.452.8173) or email me with questions!

-- Directions: Here are handy dandy directions for getting to the camp.

-- Sleeping Info: At Camp Earley, everyone sleeps in one lodge. Girls on one side, boys on the other, with a line of adult chaperones down the middle.

-- Packing List: This won't be a comprehensive list. Bring anything else you think you might need. :)

-- Itinerary: Find the schedule here. Drop off is 5 PM on Friday; pick up is 5 PM on SaturdayYou are welcome to join us for the whole retreat or part of it!

-- Check in: All NUYCO members will be checked in AND out by a parent or guardian. We will confirm that we 1) have your permission form, 2) your payment, 3) ask if you are sleeping over, and 4) get the parent/guardian's signature. If you carpool with someone besides your parent/guardian, please make sure I have all the forms and payments I need and that I know your sleeping arrangements! NUYCO members cannot attend retreat until we have the $30 retreat payment and the permission form. If you don't know if I have yours, *please ask*. :)

-- Carpool: I don't set up carpools. But if you would like to set up a carpool from Cache County or Weber County, etc., I am happy to send you contact info for other families who live in your area. This would need to be done before Friday. :) Adult specialists are not able to help with carpools, just NUYCO families.

-- Volunteers: We need at least one male to chaperone. Maestro West will be the other male chaperone. Please contact me asap if you are available! If you cannot do it the whole time, for only Friday evening or the overnight or Saturday, that is good too. Just tell me!

-- Food Offerings: Your $30 retreat payment goes towards the camp fee and the food, so we will be providing the meals. But we would welcome any desserts or snacks! Anything from brownies and cookies to clementines and Ritz crackers. Text or email me if you would like to contribute something. Maestro loves homemade desserts, so bonus points for that. One of the NUYCO members does have a peanut allergy; she is good at managing it and we will have peanut free items available, but she might appreciate a dessert or two that she could have. :)

We are so excited! See you there!

NUYS Announcements and important reminder

Greetings!

Rehearsal Time - important reminder
This Saturday's rehearsal is on the EARLY SCHEDULE. We start at 8 am and run until 10 am. We did announce this last Saturday and it has been on the calendar from the beginning, so hopefully everyone has internalized the message.

Rehearsal Plan
This Saturday our goal is to give everyone a better overview of the music, see how everyone fits together, and gain more confidence in what you need to practice. So we will be together the whole time - no sectionals. We will begin with Beethoven, and we have decided to ONLY play the first movement of the Beethoven 6th Symphony, at least for this concert. We will also be sightreading a new piece, Hatikvah by Eliot Del Borgo. I (Julie) think you'll like it.

Here is the order of the rehearsal. If you do NOT play in the Beethoven 1st movement, you may sneak in at 8:30 am instead of beginning rehearsal at 8.
7:30 doors unlock
8:00 rehearsal begins
Beethoven 6th, mvt 1
Russian Christmas Music
Hatikvah
Saint-Saens
10:00 rehearsal ends - please help clean up!
10:15 doors lock

Thanks! Still working on the volunteer spreadsheet, and will let you know when it's ready so you can sign up to help out!

See you Saturday!

Hi families! Please read this all the way to the end and email or text me with questions. Lots of info because lots is happening right now!

-- Rehearsal Time Change: This is a biggie! Our rehearsal is EARLY this Saturday. 8:30-10:00 am. See you then!

-- Youtube Playlist: Maestro West has updated our playlist for recordings of the music for this concert. Check it out.

-- Retreat Permission and Medical Form: I need this filled out for each member in NUYCO asap, regardless of whether they will be to the retreat. If there is an emergency during rehearsal, I need to know who has medication and who can't eat peanuts - things like that. Please print it and fill it out; then either send it to rehearsal, scan and email it, or text me a picture!

All Things Retreat! (Hopefully we will have the t-shirts back from the printers before the retreat! It's nice to take a nature-y, matchy matchy photo in our NUYCO shirts. Cross your fingers!)

-- Attendance: I know that the Hearns and the Fowlers will not be coming to the retreat; they are the only two families I am aware of. If you will not be to the retreat and you have not told me, please do that right now! We are planning how much food to buy and would like to only buy what we need.

-- Retreat Permission and Medical Form (again): I need this especially if you will be at the retreat! We will be eating eggs, peanut butter, and other foods. I need to know if you have any allergies, severe or not. Asap, asap, asap!

-- Directions: Here are handy dandy directions for getting to the camp.

-- Sleeping Info: At Camp Earley, everyone sleeps in one lodge. Girls on one side, boys on the other, with a line of adult chaperones down the middle.

-- Volunteers: We need at least one male to chaperone. Maestro West will be the other male chaperone. Please contact me asap if you are available! We would also welcome any females who would like to come, whether to spend the night or help in the kitchen one or both days. Text or email me if that sounds fun to you!

-- Food Offerings: Your $30 retreat payment goes towards the camp fee and the food, so we will be providing the meals. But we would welcome any desserts or snacks! Anything from brownies and cookies to clementines and Ritz crackers. Text or email me if you would like to contribute something.

Did I forget something? Undoubtedly. :) As always, text or email me with questions, concerns, or comments.

Remember, EARLY REHEARSAL on Saturday - 8:30-10:00 am. Please use the Attendance Form linked below if you will be absent!

You're great! Thanks!
