Audition Follow-Up Continued

Hi Everyone!

If you are new to this list, welcome! And thank you for your continued patience! If you want to see other emails that have been sent before you were added, they are on the blog part of the website (the home page).

We will publish a list soon, hopefully early next week, which will include everyone who has made it and submitted their audition, so far.

At this point right now, we have 39 who have auditioned, and 12 more who have contacted me, or filled out the membership form, but haven't submitted their audition yet. If you haven't submitted your audition by the time we publish the list, we will have to add you to the list later!

It will also be super helpful to hear everyone play so we can solidify our program for the first concert! Ogden High is still allowing us to perform there, as long as we follow all the health dept rules. :)

Do you still need to fill out a membership form, record an audition, share a link, choose a T-Shirt? You can do all those things on the NUYS Auditions page on the website!

Do you need help with this process? Let me know! I'll do whatever I can - tech help, answer questions, etc! Reply to this email, text or call (435.740.4335).

**Do you need to be removed from this list? Please reply and let me know. I don't want to be driving anyone crazy!**

Have a great day!

Julie

Audition Follow up

Greetings!

Just checking in while we wait for Mr Dunn and our section specialists to watch your audition videos.

We know this year's orchestra might be small. In fact, right now it's at about 41 (less than half of last year), including 8 who haven't auditioned yet. But it's still going to be great!

Inviting your friends who are willing to consider it might be a great idea!

Right now we have a tentative 16 violins, 6 violas, 5 cellos, 1 bass, 2 flutes, 1 oboe, 2 clarinets, a possible bass clarinet, 1 bassoon, 2 or maybe 3 French Horns, 1 trumpet, 3 trombones, 1 percussionist, a manager, a conductor, a brass specialist, and a woodwind specialist.

Please be as patient as possible as we sort through all the possibilities. If you are getting this email and you haven't signed up, but are thinking about it, let me know! If you would like to be unsubscribed from this years mailing list, just hit reply and let me know!

If you didn't order your t-shirt after filling out the membership form, click here to order it

Also, please read the following post-audition info if you haven't already, just to keep you entertained while you wait!

Have a great evening!

Precaution Updates for NUYCO

Hi families! Thanks for your response to the survey I sent out on Monday. Because of those results, we are making a few changes.

1. Masks will be required for all NUYCO participants. Please wear your mask to the best of your ability, and please do not judge or condemn anyone whose ability is different than yours.

2. We will sit three to six feet apart.

3. We recommend not carpooling.

4. Rehearsals will be on Saturday mornings from 9:45 to 11:15. This will avoid congestion with NUYS, who will be in the same building, hallways, and bathrooms as NUYCO. However, we will be in separate rehearsal spaces and will break at different times. Contact will be minimal.

Thanks for your patience as we sorted this out. Remember - the priority deadline for audition videos is THIS Saturday, August 22!  Auditions will be accepted after that date, and in fact are ongoing throughout the year, but seating may not be optimal since the process of making seating assignments will have already begun. Rehearsals will begin on September 12!

Thanks! Please let me know if you have any questions.

NUYCO Precautions Survey

Hello, NUYCO families! Because of recent conversations I've had with parents and adult leadership, I've created this VERY SHORT anonymous survey asking for your opinion on the upcoming season, regarding COVID-19 and precautions we will take. You can complete the survey right here in your email or click the Google Forms link and complete it there. Please, please, please fill it out at your earliest convenience so we will know how to move forward. Thank you!

Concerto Auditions

Dear fellow musicians,

I can only imagine you've had a long day waiting for this. Can I just tell you how wonderful it was to see you and to listen to you play this morning? Wow! I'm sure we could not count the hours that went into your preparation for this morning, but as a fellow musician, I do have some idea.

The decision by our judges today has been based on overall performance in the audition itself. This result is a reflection of having to judge musical performances. Since music is so subjective and judging has to somehow be objective, the judges have to take into consideration just what they see that day, including accompaniment etc, even though they might know other details that affect your journey.

That said, you are all spectacular! Every year we wish we could choose everyone.

But we can't. And this year might be even stranger, because we are choosing people and then hoping to have everything work out so there will be performances.

Disclaimer: If you "won" today, you still won, even if something gets in the way of putting on a concert and you don't get the expected prize of performing with the orchestra.

We are doing everything we can to make it happen, however!

Our winners who should expect to perform with the orchestra this year are...

Elizabeth Archuleta
Kai Bowen

Honorable mention (possibility for performing)

Talmage Kay

Since we have to wait and see how many people and what kind of instrumentation we have in the orchestra, we have not planned which concert you will each be performing on. Natalie Nef will also be performing this year since she won last year and would have played the April concert.

Thank you for your understanding.

Audition Deadline Reminder

Hello! This is a friendly reminder that the NUYCO and NUYS audition deadline is next Saturday, August 22!  Auditions will be accepted after that date, and in fact are ongoing throughout the year, but seating may not be optimal since the process of making seating assignments will have already begun. Remember, we are only accepting online auditions, preferably by uploaded video!

The NUYCO Audition page has been updated with new instructions and with audition excerpts. We are looking towards augmenting audition information with sample solo repertoire for those who need suggestions. Since this is not set up yet, please contact us if your student needs suggestions for solo music for their audition.

Feel free to look back at the "NUYCO is Back!" email from July 30 for more information, or email me with questions. Thank you!
