Newsletters & Outreach

Greetings!

This is to let you know that I mailed newsletters today to each musician who did not graduate last year; you should receive a lovely envelope in the mail tomorrow.

I am really excited for this year!  I've been visiting schools, talking about setting goals and encouraging students to look deep inside and find their true passion, and to make a difference this year - whether or not they play in our orchestra. I've also been showing our video and handing out brochures. If I haven't visited your school yet, let me know (although I would think I would know it if I had)!

I have been to Bonneville High, South Ogden Jr High, TH Bell Jr High, Wahlquist Jr High, Ben Lomond High, Fremont High (orchestra - Band this Weds), and Weber High; tomorrow I will be visiting Orion Jr High, North Ogden Jr High, and another class at Weber High. Later this week, I will be visiting Box Elder Middle & High Schools, and Marsha Stokes, our Executive Director, is visiting Bear River Middle & High Schools.

I have handed a brochure to each person who raised his/her hand, and so far I have handed out 81 brochures to interested people. Let's hope that they come!  This is going to be a great year!  What a party!

So, watch your snail mail for audition information, the calendar, and an extra note about compiling a private teacher database.

Of course, as always, you can check the website and follow the links for the calendar, audition information, and all sorts of other things!

Thanks for all your support. It is an honor to know you!

Julie Gardner :)

Peach Days Rehearsal Report

Greetings, Great Musicians!

Thanks to all who came and played with us at our Peach Days rehearsal Tuesday. We read through a bunch of music and chose 7 pieces (plus the national anthem) to perform.  If you were unable to make it on Tuesday, come tonight anyway!

If you played for July 4th and are only able to make it to 1 or 2 rehearsals, please come anyway.

Remember, this concert is for fun - the attendance requirement is lenient (unlike during the year), and you are all welcome to Come Play With Us and Bring Your Friends, or make it a family affair!

For the record, here is the list of what we rehearsed on Tuesday; we till be keeping the bold pieces for the concert.

Star Spangled Banner
Stars & Stripes Forever
Oklahoma
When Johnny Comes Marching Home
Superman Returns
Russian Sailors Dance
Cowboy Rhapsody
Pirates of The Caribbean
Beatles Medley
American Frontier
God Bless America
Summertime

Thank you for your support - you make this group great!

Lincoln Youth Symphony: Peach Days & Updates to Website

Greetings!

Thanks to all who already RSVP'd for Peach Days. Scroll down for another Invitation!  I sure hope you can come. It's really going to be fun!

Please read the invitation below and let me know whether or not you can play so I can make sure you have a folder when you arrive. If you can't come to every rehearsal, come anyway. If you played for 4th of July, no sweat. For the most part, we're playing the same music!

Regarding the Website:
I am transitioning away from using googlepages as the main website (the URL is about to change) (when google gets around to it!), so from now on the main website that we will launch from will be LincolnYouthSymphony.blogspot.com. All the information that was on the previous website will still be there... Google is just changing everyone's URL! I keep waiting for it to happen, and I've decided to just pretend like it already has. So check out the blogspot page, and notice the fantastic link to the calendar where I have everything up, including auditions, rehearsals and concerts for LYS and LYCO for the entire year!

Also, please note that Auditions are on the calendar page as well: LYS Auditions are going to Tuesday, September 15th, from 4 to 6 pm and Saturday, September 19th, from 8 to 9 am (please make the extra effort to come Tuesday if you possibly can). All auditions will be held at ACYI; what to play for auditions can be found on the audition page.

Peach Days Concert Coming Up!

Greetings!

This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, 435.723.8262. First, let me apologize for sending this to everyone on the contact list. Some of you may be far away and have no interest in LYS anymore, but sending it to everyone was the best way to contact everyone -- past, present and future!

Peach Days rehearsals are upon us! We are calling all Lincoln Youth Symphony members -- past, present, and future -- to come play with us! Just a reminder: This is an "open" concert. There is no audition, and anyone who wants to play is welcome.

Please respond to this email with your intended Peach Days participation. This will help us as we fill folders with music and set up for rehearsals.

This year, Mr Findlay will be conducting, and we will be on the stage in front of the new courthouse (with a professional sound system!) instead of on the steps of the old court house. If the location was a problem for you in the past, please consider playing with us this year.

Peach Days Rehearsal Schedule:

Rehearsals are at Adele C Young Intermediate School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the following days:

Tuesday August 25th
Thursday August 27th
Tuesday September 1st
Thursday September 3rd
Tuesday September 8th
Thursday September 10th

Concert, Saturday September 12th at 1:30 PM on the stage in front of the new courthouse (Call Time 1:00 PM)

Concert Dress: Symphony Shirts (or Royal Blue polo) or white tops and tan bottoms (pants/skirts/shorts)
