Sad News

Our super-dedicated principal trumpet player passed away Saturday, but I only found out today. Oh, how I will miss her positive and happy texts; even since she graduated, she has always kept in touch. Love to her family and friends. We have all been blessed having known her. -Julie Gardner

This is the message from Krystal Matheson's brother's page, plus information on services:

(Originally posted July 12)
The world seems to have shrunk just a little bit today.
We lost one of the most intelligent, dedicated, talented, and smiley people I've ever known due to a tragic mental illness. My beloved sister, Krystal Matheson, had worlds of potential ahead of her, yet she felt overwhelmed by everything and sadly took her own life.
Fortunately, our family has been the recipient of some tremendous blessings. We have an amazing family and loving friends nearby. Also, we're grateful for the savior Jesus Christ who enables our family to be eternal. Finally, our mom Amy Cole Matheson is the best mother anyone could ever wish for, and one of the strongest women I know.
Thank you everyone who has shared your love and support for my family during this time of hardship.

Here is the information for those who desire to attend services:

Krystal's viewing will be this Thursday evening at Aaron's Mortuary from 6-8 pm (Adams Ave & 24th Street). The funeral will be this Friday the 18th at the church on 955 East 2850 North (the one by our house). Another viewing will be held at 9:30 am with the funeral service starting at 11:00 am.
All are welcome to attend.
Also, we are assembling a memory book about Krystal. If you would like to submit a memory (no matter how long or short), you can send it in a message to Eric, Amy, Zachary, Kjersti, Alexander, or myself. Pictures are also welcome.
Thanks again to everyone for your love and support! We have definitely felt your prayers on our behalf.

Concerto Auditions

Greetings!

We are pleased to announce a new Concerto Audition schedule. This will make it possible to include one concerto for each concert, depending on who auditions.

If you are interested in auditioning this year and were expecting auditions to be in November, please audition anyway, even though the audition is in August instead.

The Concerto Audition page on the website has been updated with all the new information.

Deadlines, in a nutshell:
Audition Sign-up: August 10 (reply to this email or call Julie 435.740.4335)
Auditions, time and location TBD: August 23

Please also note that students wanting to audition on a non-orchestral instrument are not required to be in the orchestra, but students auditioning on orchestral instruments need to be members of LYS/LYCO.

We are still working on the name-change.
