NUYCO Final Audition Results

Hello Families!

One of our wonderful NUYCO moms alerted me, very nicely, that I had not notified our video auditioned-members about the audition results! My deepest apologies. I'm a teacher and shoot, things are busy. As a gift to you in compensation, here are the seating results as well, so you can know right where you are in the orchestra!

Two IMPORTANT notes about seating...

1. This will change for every concert. If you were really hoping for a principal seat and weren't chosen this time, never fear! We will have two more seating changes for the next concerts.

2. In some orchestras and symphonies, the conductor places the members by ability. Therefore, the most advanced players are in the front and the beginner players are in the back. But Mr. West doesn't do that! He believes that no matter your ability, you can learn from the people around you. He seats you based on what characteristics and abilities you bring to NUYCO and what you might be able to learn. There might be an advanced player in the back, and there might be a beginner in the front. And then it will all be changed up again in November! :)

At long last... find the seating HERE! Let me know if you have any questions.

-- Many of you haven't signed up for your shirt yet. Please do that here! ALL members AND section specialists get one free NUYCO shirt! Don't miss out!

NUYS Audition Results

Be sure you read these announcements, not just the list below!

Rehearsal starts 18 Sept, 8:30 to 11:00 am at Promontory School. Please come early. Regarding COVID guidelines, we will do what is asked of us by the school.

NUYCO (Chamber Orchestra) will be rehearsing from 9:30-11:00 am. Their audition list was sent out last week.

Please read the audition packet if you submitted an audition video! It includes the following: A printable calendar, your Acceptance, Release and Payment form (to turn in with payment, or if you are paying via online check or some other way, to turn in separately), Membership Info, Rules and Policies, and a Medical Release Form.

At long last, here is the acceptance list! Please keep checking your email in the next couple weeks to stay informed as we prepare for our first rehearsal. For the strings: this is not a seating arrangement, just audition results - 1st & 2nd violin assignments are subject to change or rotation.

If you have played with us before and you have mentioned you are planning to audition, we have included you on the list with an asterisk (*) with the assumption you will still make a video or audio recording and send it in. As the list changes over the next week, it will be revised on the blog post as well. If you have not played with us before (including NUYCO), we have not included you on the list as we await your audition.

NUYS Auditions

Greetings!

Audition Timeline
Thank you for your patience with our audition process. We truly appreciate everyone who has submitted an audition video, as well as those who came in person last Saturday! It was wonderful to see you in person, by the way! It always boosts my spirits to see you again!

We thought you all would like to know the status of audition evaluations. We should be through all the videos by the end of the upcoming weekend, maybe even by Saturday night, at which time we will send out a list via email, which will also be posted on the website.

Again, thank you for your patience!

Let's find more people!
Here's a plug for more players! Let's get the word out as schools are gradually coming back in session.

We currently have a possible 4 flutes, 2 oboes, 1 clarinet, 1 bass clarinet, 1 bassoon, 1 French horn, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 bass trombone, 1 tuba, 3 percussion, 22 violins, 2 violas, 5 cellos, and 1 bass.

It would be amazing if we could total out with one more clarinet, one more bassoon, 3 more French horns, 2 more trumpets, one more trombone, a harpist, as many more violins as we can get, at least 6 more violas, 5 more cellos, and 3 more basses.

That may sound like a tall order, but we know it's possible. We would love to have 80 players in the orchestra, like we did 2 years ago, before COVID. In reality, the best recruiters are YOU. Let's work together to make this an amazing come-back year!

Thank you so much!
Julie 🎶

PS If you need to be unsubscribed from this list, please reply and let me know! I did my best.

Here's what we looked like March 2nd, 2020!

Audition Information

Greetings!

Our audition information is complete.

Thanks to everyone who is interested, and all those fabulous new people that we expect to recruit this year!

Auditions will be held Saturday, August 21st, at Promontory School.

Pages: NUYS Auditions for Youth Symphony, and NUYCO Auditions for Chamber Orchestra, include:
A membership form
A spreadsheet link to sign up for an in-person audition time
Instructions for the video option
A link to choose your size and color for your t-shirt
Audition instructions, including:
Scales
Solo
Downloadable orchestral excerpts
The Audition Packet will be handed out if you are in person, but is also available digitally. Here is the link.

This year's auditions will be a hybrid format - you may choose to audition in person, in which case you'll need to sign up for a time on the spreadsheet. All in-person auditions will be videoed for reference as seating is arranged. More times will be added on the spreadsheet if necessary.

If you cannot attend on the in-person audition date, or if you prefer a video option, we encourage you to submit a video. Auditions submitted by the 21st will receive priority handling, but all auditions will be considered, even if they are "late". We are aware of the timing with some schools that don't start until after August 21st, so there is time worked into the schedule for you to submit your audition before we begin rehearsals.

We encourage you to spread the word! Don't forget about our recruiting contest! For each person who auditions & credits you as their referral, you will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

I hope your summer has been wonderful!

NUYCO 2020-21 Season Audition Results - NUYCO

Hello NUYCO families! Here is the anxiously-awaited acceptance list.Thank you for your patience. :) Be sure you read the following announcements, not just the list below!

Rehearsal starts THIS SATURDAY, September 12, 9:45 - 11:15 AM at Promontory School in Perry. Please come early. Because of the smaller group this year, we have enough music stands for everyone to have their own stand without sharing in the strings (for both orchestras). If you prefer to bring your own stand each week that's fine too, but no one needs to. If you haven't read the NUYCO COVID-19 Precaution Updates, please read it here now!

The audition packet is traditionally handed out at in-person auditions, so I'm nervous you haven't looked at it. Please read it! It includes the following: A printable calendar, your Acceptance, Release and Payment form (to turn in with payment, or if you are paying via online check or some other way, to turn in separately), Membership Info, Rules and Policies, and a Medical Release Form.

Please join Remind, our emergency contact system! Read how to do that here.

At long last, here is the seating list! Please keep checking your email this week to stay informed as we prepare for our first rehearsal.

Only those who have sent audition videos are included. If you are planning to audition but haven't submitted your video yet, please do it ASAP!

Andrea Gibbs
Sally Hurd
Rebekah Christensen
Anne Duncan

NUYS 2020-21 Season Audition Results - NUYS

Be sure you read these announcements, not just the list below!

Rehearsal starts NEXT SATURDAY, 12 Sept, 8:30 to 11:00 am at Promontory School.  Please come early. You will be in charge of sanitizing your own stand and chair both before and after rehearsal. Seating will involve some experimentation as we work to evolve anticipated sound issues melded with social distancing. Because of the smaller group this year, we have enough music stands for everyone to have their own stand without sharing in the strings (for both orchestras). If you prefer to bring your own stand each week that's fine too, but no one needs to.

NUYCO (Chamber Orchestra) will be rehearsing at a shifted time this year (to minimize contact). They will start at 9:45 and end at 11:15. Their audition list will be sent out separately.

Audition Follow-Up Continued

Hi Everyone!

If you are new to this list, welcome! And thank you for your continued patience! If you want to see other emails that have been sent before you were added, they are on the blog part of the website (the home page).

We will publish a list soon, hopefully early next week, which will include everyone who has made it and submitted their audition, so far.

At this point right now, we have 39 who have auditioned, and 12 more who have contacted me, or filled out the membership form, but haven't submitted their audition yet. If you haven't submitted your audition by the time we publish the list, we will have to add you to the list later!

It will also be super helpful to hear everyone play so we can solidify our program for the first concert! Ogden High is still allowing us to perform there, as long as we follow all the health dept rules. :)

Do you still need to fill out a membership form, record an audition, share a link, choose a T-Shirt? You can do all those things on the NUYS Auditions page on the website!

Do you need help with this process? Let me know! I'll do whatever I can - tech help, answer questions, etc! Reply to this email, text or call (435.740.4335).

**Do you need to be removed from this list? Please reply and let me know. I don't want to be driving anyone crazy!**

Have a great day!

Julie

Audition Follow up

Greetings!

Just checking in while we wait for Mr Dunn and our section specialists to watch your audition videos.

We know this year's orchestra might be small. In fact, right now it's at about 41 (less than half of last year), including 8 who haven't auditioned yet. But it's still going to be great!

Inviting your friends who are willing to consider it might be a great idea!

Right now we have a tentative 16 violins, 6 violas, 5 cellos, 1 bass, 2 flutes, 1 oboe, 2 clarinets, a possible bass clarinet, 1 bassoon, 2 or maybe 3 French Horns, 1 trumpet, 3 trombones, 1 percussionist, a manager, a conductor, a brass specialist, and a woodwind specialist.

Please be as patient as possible as we sort through all the possibilities. If you are getting this email and you haven't signed up, but are thinking about it, let me know! If you would like to be unsubscribed from this years mailing list, just hit reply and let me know!

If you didn't order your t-shirt after filling out the membership form, click here to order it

Also, please read the following post-audition info if you haven't already, just to keep you entertained while you wait!

Have a great evening!

Julie

Audition Deadline Reminder

Hello! This is a friendly reminder that the NUYCO and NUYS audition deadline is next Saturday, August 22!  Auditions will be accepted after that date, and in fact are ongoing throughout the year, but seating may not be optimal since the process of making seating assignments will have already begun. Remember, we are only accepting online auditions, preferably by uploaded video!

The NUYCO Audition page has been updated with new instructions and with audition excerpts. We are looking towards augmenting audition information with sample solo repertoire for those who need suggestions. Since this is not set up yet, please contact us if your student needs suggestions for solo music for their audition.

Feel free to look back at the "NUYCO is Back!" email from July 30 for more information, or email me with questions. Thank you!

NUYCO is back!

Welcome to the 2020-21 season of NUYCO!

My name is Josie Anderson and I'm the new Chamber Orchestra Managing Director! I may be familiar to some of you, as I've assisted Jenny Murrow over the last few years. I am very excited to take on a more substantial role and get to know you and your musicians. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. I am always available via email (chamber@northernutahyouthsymphony.org) or text (435.452.8173), and I will answer any calls when I'm able.

We are excited to present a plan to open up our new season! Having had many inquiries regarding the possibility of an upcoming season, we have decided to go ahead with it and proceed with caution. Promontory school is allowing us to use our regular rehearsal space, and we have scheduled our first rehearsal for September 12th. We recognize that there are some who will choose not to join us this fall, or even for the whole year, and we respect that choice. We would love to hear from you, however, if you would like to remain on the email list to keep your future options open.

In order to delay personal contact with each other as long as possible, we will be accepting auditions exclusively online, preferably via uploaded video. Priority deadline for auditions will be Saturday, August 22nd. Auditions will be accepted after that date, and in fact are ongoing throughout the year, but seating may not be optimal since the process of making seating assignments will have already begun. If your musician is going to audition for NUYS instead of NUYCO, please contact me so we can be prepared!

We will do our best to make our rehearsals COVID compliant. We will set up our rehearsal spaces with as much physical distancing as possible. String players will be asked to bring a music stand to facilitate physical distancing by eliminating sharing a stand with a partner. Those who can wear masks without interfering with their health are encouraged, but not required, to do so. Everyone who enters the building will be required to wash or sanitize hands upon arrival; there will be a bottle of sanitizer available if needed, but please plan to bring your own.

This year! It's happening!

Greetings!

We are excited to present a plan to open up our 2020-21 season!

Graduates: If you will be in the area, contact us about playing as an adult volunteer! Or, just forward this email to all your friends who would like to play with us! We will miss you!

Everyone else: Having had many inquiries regarding the possibility of an upcoming season, we have decided to go ahead with it, and proceed with caution. Promontory school is allowing us to use our regular rehearsal space, and we have scheduled our first rehearsal for September 12th. Tuition will not be collected until the week after the first rehearsal.

We recognize that there are some who will choose not to join us this fall, or even for the whole year, and we respect that choice. We would love to hear from you, however, if you would like to remain on the email list to keep your future options open. Just reply to this email and let us know.

We will do our best to make our rehearsals COVID compliant. We will set up our rehearsal spaces with as much physical distancing as possible. String players will be asked to bring a music stand to facilitate physical distancing by eliminating sharing a stand with a partner. We should have enough stands for all the wind and brass players. Those who can wear masks without interfering with their playing or their health are encouraged, but not required, to do so. Everyone entering the building will be required to wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival and we will keep a bottle of sanitizer available, but please plan to bring your own.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to  introduce our new Chamber Orchestra Managing Director! Josie Anderson will be familiar to you since she's been my assistant over the last couple years. She will still be helping me, and will be around more often as she takes on a more substantial role with Chamber. Welcome once again, Josie! You rock!

Congratulations to the 2019-2020 Northern Utah Youth Symphony and Chamber Orchestra!

We are grateful for all who auditioned so far. This is not a final list as we are still receiving other auditions via uploaded video. Again, thank you for your patience!

This year, our concertmaster will be Rebecca Hales! After years as our highly capable principal second violin, she is well prepared to lead our first violin section! Congrats, Rebecca!

Also, this is not a final list! We are waiting for auditions from several other people, including another French Horn, another Harp, and a few more violins. Recruit your friends to bolster to our Trumpet and Trombone sections. And if you know a youth who plays bassoon, make sure that bassoonist knows about us! We hope to play pieces from The Planets this year, and we need a large orchestra!

On this list, the woodwinds and brass are in seating order, but the strings are in no particular order (actually, they're alphabetical).

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work out seating! We will follow up with another email in the next week with repertoire and more details.
