LYS Saturday Report -- November 14, 2009

Greetings!
This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, GJulieKay@gmail.com, 435.723.8262. Please contact me with questions or if you need to arrange for an absence or to leave early.

Saturday's Rehearsal.
From what I've heard, the rehearsal went well last Saturday. We had some percussion help (thanks, Nathan & Mikaela), and we decided to add Sleigh Ride to the concert this weekend on the 21st!

This Saturday, Nov 21.
Our rehearsal this Saturday will be at Box Elder Middle School Auditorium. The address is 18 South 500 East, Brigham City. The stage is small, so we will have to be creative as far as fitting everyone on!

Rehearsal will be 8:00 am to 11:00 am.

Concert Coming Up.
The concert will be at 7:00 pm. Call time for LYS is 6:30. LYCO will be arriving at 5:45 and rehearsing on the stage at 6:00. They will perform first. We will join the audience when they perform.

Kids Are Music ~ Kids & Christmas!
The concert is December 7th. If you haven't already, please bring your performance fee this Saturday to rehearsal. Make checks payable to LBSS -- the fee is $11 per person. Remember, you will get two tickets for your parents (or whomever comes to support you). Other tickets will be available for purchase at $6.50 a piece (these prices include the WSU fee of 50 cents per ticket).
I have received information about the tech rehearsal before the concert, and it doesn't actually sound like it's a real rehearsal, just a tech check. I don't believe the group will need to be there -- just the leadership!
See Ya Saturday!

LYS - One More Change

Greetings!

One more change: Our treasurer has requested that we write the performer fee checks to LBSS so she can turn it into one check to give to Kids are Music and Dance. If your check is already written, we'll turn it in to them, but if you haven't yet, please write it to LBSS.

Thanks for your patience with me!

LYS Extra Communique for Rehearsal Nov 14, 2009

Greetings!

This is Julie, as usual. 435.723.8262, GJulieKay@gmail.com. If you can't be there this Saturday, email me. I will have some internet access and will forward your email to the right person.

I have a few things I want you to know! Some are reminders; others are new information. Please read to the bottom!
  • Rehearsal is at 8:00 am this Saturday. That's a half hour earlier than usual, and I just know you can do it! Thanks for your extra time! :)

  • Bring a treat to share at break. It can be a healthy snack. It doesn't have to be chocolate or sugar, although that is (admittedly) more fun!

  • If you missed rehearsal last week, there is Christmas music for you in your instrument's file folder in the crate which I left at the school for you. Please pick it up even if you aren't participating in the special Christmas concert. We will likely add one of the pieces to the concert next Saturday.

  • For the Browning Center concert on December 7th, we have just the next two Saturdays to collect the performer fee from each participant. PLEASE make your checks out to "Kids are MUSIC and DANCE" (not to the symphony!). Unfortunately, the performer fee has had an extra dollar added because of some kind of ticket fee from Weber State. Bummer. Anyway, it's $11 per person instead of $10. If you would like a longer explanation, I have posted the information on the blog from the lady who is organizing it. Click here to read it.

  • We are taking a picture of the orchestra this Saturday (casual - just wear what you normally wear) for the papers. The press release has already gone out, and they are aware that the LYS photo is being submitted on Saturday.

  • I will not be at rehearsal this Saturday, but Laurel Potter, our LYS Parent Representative on the board, will stop in around break and collect any performer fee checks you bring for the Christmas concert.

  • FYI: The following week, Nov 21, rehearsal will be on stage at the Middle School auditorium, 18 South 500 E, Brigham City, at 8:00 am. The concert begins at 7:00 pm. Call time TBA.

Well, that's it!  Have a great weekend, and thanks for all your dedication and commitment. You are wonderful!

Kids and Christmas Concert Information

TICKET INFORMATION:

Weber State Ticket Office (northeast entrance of the Dee Events Center) will be selling the tickets.  As I mentioned earlier, all events at the Austad Auditorium are now required to have reserved seating and go through WSU ticketing offices.

All performers are required to pay a participation fee of $11.00.  This will include 2 tickets for their parents. They will need to get these tickets through WSU. In years past the fee has been $10.  The price has been increased to include the .50 per ticket processing fee charged by WSU. The $11.00 fee needs to be paid to KIDS are MUSIC and DANCE by November 25th.  This fee is to help defray the cost of rental, WSU staff and expenses for the concert venue.  KIDS are MUSIC and DANCE will collect these monies - NOT WSU ticket office.  This will ensure that we have the funds on hand to help with the costs of the venue.

*Please note - Students and their families can pick up these tickets when tickets go on sale.  I will let you know what date that will be.  If I get rosters, etc. soon,  then tickets can go on sale as early as next week.  Thanks!

We need to provide WSU with an alphabetized roster of directors, performers, and accompanists so students can pick up their 2 tickets along with other tickets their families will want to purchase. This will makes sure their seating is all together.

To clarify -  you will get the 2 participants tickets at WSU without paying WSU for them.  Families and community members can also purchase additional tickets for $7.00.  Example:  If you wanted 7 tickets for your family - you would order 7 tickets.  Give WSU your performer's name and you would pay for 5 tickets and receive 7 tickets (2 of those tickets will be paid for with your performer's fee.)

We hope this is not too confusing.  Weber State has recommended we do this this way - because we have to pay many of expenses upfront before the concert.  So, we must have these funds on hand to cover the costs.

Performers, Directors and accompanists will NOT need tickets to the performance. (the 2 they will get for the performer's fee will be for their family).  We have planned to reserve seating for them to watch the concert as well as have access to getting on and off the stage as they perform.

Please feel free to contact with any questions or concerns.  Plan to have an earlier tech rehearsal on the day of the concert.  I will have the tech schedule with everyone's times soon. This will not be a rehearsal, but a tech check only.

Thanks so much!  I look forward to working on this project together.

Janette

LYS Saturday Report for November 7, 2009

Greetings~ Be Sure To Read Announcements for NEXT WEEK below!
This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, GJulieKay@gmail.com, 435.723.8262. Please contact me with questions or if you need to arrange for an absence or to leave early.

Today's Rehearsal.
We had concerto auditions this morning. Thank you to those who participated. It's such hard work to prepare these types of pieces! Those we select will be on the January 30th concert. We will announce the program really soon.

In contrast to last week, this week we had all sorts of people gone with family, participating in the pit orchestra or stage crew at Weber High, or leaving for funerals or Veteran's Day concerts, as well as someone who had to work! It's just crazy how one week we have just about everyone there, and the next week we have many empty chairs!

But ya'll missed out on the fun! We had sight-reading session with Christmas music, and chose 3 of the four pieces to perform at the December 7th Browning Center concert. We will be playing Winter Wonderland, Bach Christmas, and Sleigh Ride. We kept the fourth piece, Christmas Festival, just in case we decide to use it, but it's a little harder! If you weren't here this week, be sure to talk to me before rehearsal next week.

Next Week.
Here's hoping everyone reads their email! Next week, since we are in crunch mode for the concert the following week, rehearsal will begin at 8:00 am. Did you hear that? 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Please be on time!

And be sure to bring treats or snacks to share. Healthy ones are okay too!

I will not be at rehearsal next week. I will be out of town with my daughter who will be doing Junior Miss. I just realized that! Hmmm. :)

Concert Coming Up.
The concert is two weeks from today on November 21st. The rehearsal that morning will be at Box Elder Middle School on the stage in the auditorium.

Just a review of clothing for the concert:
Boys: Black tux or equivalent suit, white dress shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black shoes.

Girls: Black dress, formal trouser suit, or blouse & skirt, midriff covered, conservative neckline, skirts & dresses at least tea-length, slits no higher than knee, black stockings, black shoes, accessories & trim in black.

Kids Are Music ~ Kids & Christmas!
I have submitted a list of students to be turned in to the WSU box office at the Browning Center. I expect I'll need to collect money at some point, perhaps starting next week. I still have a couple people I haven't heard from on this. Please be sure to let me know asap.

There will be a tech rehearsal in the afternoon before the concert. The time of this rehearsal has not yet been announced. If you can't come to the tech rehearsal, come to the concert anyway. We'll take good notes for you!
Happy Sunny November! (Just wait... Now that I said that, it will rain and snow all week!)

LYS Saturday Report for October 31, 2009

Greetings!
This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, GJulieKay@gmail.com, 435.723.8262. Please contact me with questions or if you need to arrange for an absence or to leave early.

Saturday's Rehearsal.
What a lovely rehearsal we had. It's so awesome when almost everyone is there! Keep practicing! I think we're gonna make this concert work nicely! Thanks to Nathan S. for helping fill out the sound in the first violin section. Woo Hoo!
Thanks to those who remembered to bring treats to share! I was impressed that anyone remembered since I never emailed about it, and I never talked about it. All I did was write it on the board! We'll plan another treat week soon... How about November 14th?

Next Week.
Next Week's schedule is: Concerto Auditions: 8:00 am (we have a total of 5 students auditioning - three members & two who are not members... Those selected will make up the majority of the January 30th concert).
Regular Rehearsal 8:30 to 11am. The goal is to start rehearsal before 8:30, so please plan to arrive at 8:15am.
We have planned a flute workshop for 10:15 am. Any interested flute players are invited whether they are members of the orchestra or not. Sorry for the short notice, but it will be worthwhile for anyone who comes. Please let me know if you invite friends so we know how many to expect! Jana Gardner will be running this, and I know you'll learn and grow from the experience. She has so much to share!

Kids Are Music ~ Kids & Christmas!
I am awaiting final confirmation from the organizer. I will let you know when I know! If it all works out, we will pull out a Christmas piece and play the Mozart and the Three Rustic Dances. Concert Date: December 7th.
See Ya Saturday!
