September 19 rehearsal - NUYCO

Hello families! Rehearsal will be tomorrow, 9:45-11:15. If you have not yet turned in your audition video, please do so or email me with questions!

Parent Meeting: Save the date of the parent meeting on Thursday, September 24 at 7 PM. It will be online.

Tuition: Cathy Prows will be at the school tomorrow (Sept 19) and next week (Sept 26) from 10:45 to 11:30 to collect tuition.

Other methods of turning in tuition include: Hand it (with the payment form) to Julie or Josie, mail it with a check and the payment form to the PO Box 236, Brigham City UT 84302, pay online on our tuition page (fee will be added) and turn in your payment form separately, send an online check from your bank to the above address and turn in your form separately.

Keep in mind that the payment form is a triple form. It covers (1) your agreement to abide by our policies, (2) your release for any photos or video we use, and (3) your payment plan, so even if you pay by some alternative method, we still need your form turned in.

Medical Forms: Medical forms must also be turned in. We need one from each musician. You may combine the form for people in the same family, if that works for you.

Illness and attendance: Lastly, if you are sick or have been asked to quarantine, please stay home. Please use the attendance form to let us know if you will not be there, or will be leaving early or arriving late, for any reason.

See you tomorrow!

Practice Videos - NUYCO

Also, this note from our conductor, Mr. West!

"There is a Youtube channel (found here) with recordings of pieces and individual parts for practice help! There are links to videos for everything except Critter Crawl in the 'Current Music' folder. Individual parts will be up within the next two weeks."

Thanks, Mr. West, for putting that together for us! Parents, please help and encourage your kids to utilize the recordings!

First rehearsal TOMORROW! - NUYCO

Hello wonderful families!

Our first NUYCO rehearsal is tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, from 9:45-11:15 AM. We rehearse at Promontory School in Perry. Please arrive early so we can start on time.

We are playing such fun music, so I hope you are all excited. All members will receive their music, kept in a folder, to take home after rehearsal.

If you need a refresher on our COVID precautions, read this email here. Per the email, everyone participating in NUYCO must wear a mask and either sanitize or wash hands upon entry.

Parent Meeting: We will be conducting the parent meeting entirely online, Sept 24th, 2020, at 7 pm, and the meeting will also be recorded for later viewing. More information on accessing this meeting will be sent soon. There will be NO in-person parent meeting.

Absences: If you are going to miss a rehearsal, please use our attendance form. There is a tab for it on the website. You can fill out the attendance form multiple times for whichever Saturdays you already know you are going to be absent, too. That makes it super simple for me to know who to expect! :)

Payments: Cathy Prows is our treasurer. She will be at the school in the hallway from 10:45 to 11:30 am on Saturday, Sept 19 and Saturday, Sept 26 (not tomorrow). Please be sure to read through the Tuition page on the website. We have also made an online payment option available through Givebutter for those who prefer it. You can pay with Venmo, Paypal, or a credit card, but there is a fee associated with the payment.

Other ways to pay without an extra fee are to bring a check or cash, or send an online check through your bank to our PO Box. All these suggestions and details are on the tuition page. The Acceptance, Release and Payment form has also been updated to reflect the Givebutter option.

Medical Release: We need a medical release from all participants. Please print and fill out.

Mr. West and I are excited to meet you tomorrow! 10 points to your favorite Hogwarts House if you made it this far. :)

Announcements for Tomorrow's Rehearsal! - NUYS

Greetings!

It's the beginning of a strange but wonderful year! I just know it! That must be why this email is so long. I'm sorry! I've worked on it all day!

This Week's Storm
Tomorrow is our first rehearsal. We are grateful that Promontory School never lost power, and all is well there. We hope all who were affected by the storm are okay, and that you all have your power back on. A lot of trees came down! Some areas look like a war zone!

Email list
I have done my best to remove you from this email list if you have made no contact with me this season. If you are still on the list and need to be removed, please reply and let me know.

Attendance
If you are going to miss a rehearsal, please use our attendance form. There is a link in the signature on every group email (see below!), and a tab on the website. You can fill out the attendance form multiple times for whichever Saturdays you already know you are going to be absent, too. Cross Country Meets, Marching band, family weddings, ACT Tests, etc. Having everyone listed in the same place on the same spreadsheet is enormously helpful to me. You can use this form anytime, even if you wake up sick in the morning. I get an email each time someone responds.

Rehearsal for tomorrow will be
Front doors open at 8 am, so if you want to come help set up, you are welcome!
Seating and Individual warm up: 8:20 am. Music will be on stands, and musicians will need to get their own chairs. Musicians will take their folders home at the end of the day.
Rehearsal begins: 8:30 am.
No sectionals this week. We are sight reading, and experimenting with placement and sound.
Music will be rehearsed in the following order. Musicians without parts may leave when they are done. We will spend the most time on the first two pieces. We will end by 11:00 am.
Star Wars Through the Years
Instrumentation - All strings, woodwinds, brass & percussion, Harp & Piano
Salute to Broadway
Instrumentation - All strings, woodwinds, brass & percussion, including drum set
Saint-Saens Cello Concerto, 1st mvt
Instrumentation - Strings, Flutes, Oboe, Bassoons, Clarinet (not Bass Clarinet), French Horns, Trumpets, Timpani (no Aux Percussion, Trombone, Tuba)
Mozart Clarinet Concerto, 1st mvt
Instrumentation - Strings, Flutes, Bassoons, and French Horns only

Concertos
Congrats to our concerto audition winners: Kai Bowen, Cello, and Elizabeth Archuleta, Clarinet, who will be performing on this first concert.

Sanitization & Health
Sanitization will include wiping stands and chairs and anything else we touch (tables moved, etc). We have our own bottles of sanitizer from the school. We do not need to sanitize before rehearsal. Brass, no spit valve emptying on the floor! Bring a towel or other absorbent pad. Bring your own personal water bottle & pencil.

Masks encouraged, but not required (Some instruments don't work with a mask!). You all recognize that there's some risk in doing this. Please please please stay home if you are sick! Like any kind of sick, not just Coronavirus symptoms!

Parent Orientation Meeting will be online
Change in parent meeting: We will be conducting the parent meeting entirely online, Sept 24th, 2020, at 7 pm, and the meeting will also be recorded for later viewing. More information on accessing this meeting will be sent soon. There will be NO in-person parent meeting.

Tuition Collection will be in person
Cathy Prows is our treasurer. She will be at the school in the hallway from 10:45 to 11:30 am on Saturday, Sept 19 and Saturday, Sept 26.

Medical Release
We need a medical release from all participants. Please print and fill out.

Post-Audition Instructions
This is starting to sound like the Post-Audition instructions, which have been updated to reflect all the announcements above (but might be more succinct).

If you actually read to the bottom of this email, you deserve a special prize! Thank you!

NUYCO 2020-21 Season Audition Results - NUYCO

Hello NUYCO families! Here is the anxiously-awaited acceptance list.Thank you for your patience. :) Be sure you read the following announcements, not just the list below!

Rehearsal starts THIS SATURDAY, September 12, 9:45 - 11:15 AM at Promontory School in Perry. Please come early. Because of the smaller group this year, we have enough music stands for everyone to have their own stand without sharing in the strings (for both orchestras). If you prefer to bring your own stand each week that's fine too, but no one needs to. If you haven't read the NUYCO COVID-19 Precaution Updates, please read it here now!

The audition packet is traditionally handed out at in-person auditions, so I'm nervous you haven't looked at it. Please read it! It includes the following: A printable calendar, your Acceptance, Release and Payment form (to turn in with payment, or if you are paying via online check or some other way, to turn in separately), Membership Info, Rules and Policies, and a Medical Release Form.

Please join Remind, our emergency contact system! Read how to do that here.

At long last, here is the seating list! Please keep checking your email this week to stay informed as we prepare for our first rehearsal.

Only those who have sent audition videos are included. If you are planning to audition but haven't submitted your video yet, please do it ASAP!

Isaac Sealy
Andrea Gibbs
Sally Hurd
Rebekah Christensen
Anne Duncan

NUYS 2020-21 Season Audition Results - NUYS

Be sure you read these announcements, not just the list below!

Rehearsal starts NEXT SATURDAY, 12 Sept, 8:30 to 11:00 am at Promontory School.  Please come early. You will be in charge of sanitizing your own stand and chair both before and after rehearsal. Seating will involve some experimentation as we work to evolve anticipated sound issues melded with social distancing. Because of the smaller group this year, we have enough music stands for everyone to have their own stand without sharing in the strings (for both orchestras). If you prefer to bring your own stand each week that's fine too, but no one needs to.

NUYCO (Chamber Orchestra) will be rehearsing at a shifted time this year (to minimize contact). They will start at 9:45 and end at 11:15. Their audition list will be sent out separately.

At long last, here is the seating list! Please keep checking your email this week to stay informed as we prepare for our first rehearsal.

If you have played with us before and you have mentioned you are planning to audition, we have included you on the list with an asterisk (*) with the assumption you will still make a video or audio recording and send it in. As the list changes over the next week, it will be revised on this blog post as well. If you have not played with us before (including NUYCO), we have not included you on the list as we await your audition.
