This weeks NYUS announcements

Hello NYUS!

Here are your weekly announcements and updates:

Saturday's Rehearsal:
8:00 - Doors Unlock
8:30 - Sectionals (same spots as last week)
9:30 - Combined Rehearsal
Unfinished Symphony
Variations on a Shaker Melody
Ancient Dances and Airs
Mozart Horn Concerto No. 2 with Tanner
11:00 - Clean up
11:30 - Doors Locked

Concert - Our concert is scheduled for Feb. 12th, @ Logan High School (162 W 100 S, Logan).  Right now that leaves only three rehearsals left!!  Hoping to schedule another evening dress rehearsal like we did for our first concert, but I'm waiting to hear back from Promontory.

Here is the schedule for Feb. 12th:

No Rehearsal in the morning!
4:00 pm - Setup - If you can come this early, we'll appreciate your help.
5:00 - 5:30 pm - NUYS Sound Check on stage (30 minutes can go quick! So please be in your chair and ready to tune by 5:10)
5:45 - 6:30 pm - NUYCO Sound Check on stage
7:00 pm Concert! Invite friends!

Recital Night - We were unable to find a free location to host our recital night this year, so we are going to have to postpone.

Youth Symphony Festival - Thank you to everyone who responded to last week's email. Unfortunately, after I had sent it out we received news that they had raised the price of the entrance fee.  Also, the cost of transportation (bus) has increased dramatically.  Because our group is smaller this year, we simply don't have the funds we normally have to cover these expenses.  For this reason we will have to wait till next year to participate.

Bring a Friend -  You are our greatest recruiting tool! Don't be afraid to invite your friends to come sit in on a rehearsal and experience what it's like to play in a symphony. You could even offer to give them a wake up call and/or a ride.  Just give me a heads up so I have a chair for them.

I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week, and I'll see you on Saturday!

Sincerely,

Fwd: Rehearsal and Other Exciting News!!

Hello NUYS Family!

There is going to be a lot of important but exciting information in this message so please read through it all.

Tomorrow's Rehearsal: Same as last week -
8:00 - Doors Unlock
8:30 - Sectionals (same spots as last week)
9:30 - Combined Rehearsal
Ancient Dances and Airs
Unfinished Symphony
Variations on a Shaker Melody
(Excuse all winds and brass EXCEPT horns and oboes)
Mozart Horn Concerto No. 2 with Tanner Chipman
11:00 - Clean up
11:30 - Doors Locked

Recital Night -
Unfortunately we will be unable to use the tabernacle for our recital night. We are working hard to try to find another venue, but we will have to postpone it for now.  I will let you know when we are able to secure a new location.  We hope to have something arranged for March.

Concert -
Our next concert is February 12th @ Logan High.  That only leaves us with 5 rehearsals left!!!!  I will send out more details about the schedule for that day, but it will be similar to our first concert with the performance starting at 7 pm.

Youth Orchestra Festival -
Now for some exciting news!  We got word that there are tentative plans in motion for the Youth Orchestra Festival at Abravanel Hall to resume this year.  They have scheduled the event for February 28th.  Because this is hosted by the Utah Symphony we are required to follow their COVID-19 safety protocols and procedures. This means that everyone who enters the facility will have to show proof of vaccination or a recent (within 72-hours), negative COVID-19 test. Additionally,  all performers must wear a mask at all times. Winds and Brass may remove their masks only to play but must wear them during long tacets (rests). This has been the policy for every youth performer, every visiting guest artist, every person to enter the stage to appear with the Utah Symphony.  We will provide a bus if we are able to participate.

In addition to the festival, they are also moving forward with the side-by-side concert with the Utah Symphony, which has been scheduled for May 10th.  Participants will be selected from each youth group that participates in the festival to be given the opportunity to rehearse and perform with a member of the Utah Symphony. They are requiring that anyone who participates in the side-by-side MUST have a full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, no exceptions.

We would like to provide the opportunity for our wonderful musicians to participate in the festival,  but we need to make sure we have the personnel to cover all the parts and still have good balance/blend.  Parents, I need each of you to fill out the following form ASAP! The sooner we know, the sooner we can start making preparations.  Please remember, right now we are just seeing who is available.  This is not definite, yet.

Phew! I think that is all for now.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Have a wonderful day!
