LYS Saturday Report -- October 4th 2008

Greetings!

This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony. If you are receiving this email, you recently joined or returned to the Lincoln Youth Symphony, or I have not heard from you that you will not be returning. If you need to read a previous email, they are all available on the Lincoln Youth Symphony Blog, the Weekly Rehearsal Report here.

Remember, regular Saturday rehearsals are from 8:30 to 11:00 am. Thank you for being on time! We have had some auditions before each rehearsal so far, so we have been starting a little late, but do not get used to it!

If you will not be attending a rehearsal, or will be leaving early or coming late, please contact me at 435.723.8262 or respond to this email.

October 4, 2008

This week, we had a few more auditions, checked out music to those who missed last time, and rehearsed. Thank you for practicing at home!  Focus on notes and rhythms so we can make music at rehearsal. You should have the following music in your folders:
Claire de Lune - Debussy
Symphony No. 38 - Mozart
Little Bop Riding Hood - Foreman/Isaac
St Lawrence Overture - Washburn
Sleigh Ride - Leroy Anderson

Don't forget to invite your friends that play oboe, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, viola, bass, cello, violin, timpani and percussion. We miss those who graduated this spring, but we are excited to have so many new members! Remember, we have a fun video on LincolnYouthSymphony.googlepages.com.

This week, welcome to the following new members: Emily Dean, Violin; Avery Weloth, Oboe; and welcome back to Melinda Kent, French Horn.
We are so glad to have you!

Future Rehearsals

Our first rehearsal with potluck treats or healthy snacks like fruits and veggies :) will be this coming week, October 11. Please do not bring messy food, and if you decide to bring a drink, bring cups as well. Everyone is bringing something, so a few will do! Social interaction!  Fun!

There will be No Rehearsal on October 18th for UEA weekend. Spend time with your family, and Practice, Practice, Practice!

Our first concert is coming up quickly. Be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, November 22nd, 2008, 7:00 pm, BEHS Auditorium.

Please contact me with any questions: Julie Gardner, 435.723.8262, GJulieKay@gmail.com, or check out the calendar on the website here (please inform me of any technical difficulties).
