Abravanel Hall Recording

This is a link to two sets of the official Abravanel Hall Recording.

The WAV file will take longer to download, but is suitable for burning your own CD.

The MP3 file is smaller, and is suitable for your mobile device.

Let me know if it doesn't work!

:) Julie

T-Shirts and The Future

***If you left the orchestra earlier in the year and have not turned in your folder, please turn it in asap!***

For Everyone Else:

We are still looking for a sponsor and an extra sponsor for the concert! Any ideas are very welcome.

And on to the important stuff:

Greetings, Earthlings!

Here we are, winding down at the end of the season; we have much yet to accomplish, so let's keep rolling!

1. Wear your NUYS TShirts this Saturday March 21. I am looking forward to taking random pictures, so humor me.

2. The rest of the year looks like this:
Regular Rehearsals:
March 21
March 28
April 4
April 11
April 18

Concert Date:
Dress Rehearsal April 23, 4 pm, BEHS
(Really Dressy, please: wear your concert attire to this -- there will be formal pictures)
Final Concert April 23, 7 pm, BEHS

3. The Shostakovich is finally HERE and we will be working hard on that as well as the rest of our music. You should have Schubert's Unfinished, Copland's Hoedown from Rodeo, and Elfman's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in your folders so far.
Check out this youtube video of the Shostakovich, Leonard Bernstein at the piano...

4. If you are missing rehearsal any particular day, please let ME know.
(Mr Dunn is nice, but if one person is the clearing house for such information, we can make wiser decisions.) For instance, if all the woodwinds are going to be gone one week but I only know about half of them, we can't plan around it.

Your email or text or phone call should look something like this:
Hello! I, Julie Gardner, can't be at rehearsal this week because my daughter is performing at Carnegie Hall and I want to be there, and there isn't anything I can do to avoid it.
(This is a future wish, but is not yet true -- so I will be at rehearsal.)

So, there you go! The Gala went very well, and we raised over $3000. Thank you for your support! Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.

See Ya Saturday in your T-Shirt!

Julie

Saturday's Gala News Flash

Dear Wonderful People,

Josie the Ticket Maven here again, hopefully for the last time. :)

We had an extraordinary amount of money turned in today! I, along with all of the other board members, were very impressed and pleased with your success. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

You have all done so well that we are SOLD OUT for the gala on Saturday! If you have made prior arrangements to turn in money (i.e., if you and I have set up a separate appointment, you have committed to bring it to rehearsal, etc.), please continue in those plans.

However, if you have not told me that you are going to give me more money, please don't! We won't be able to feed that many people.

If you bring money on Saturday like we talked about, please give it to Julie as I will not be there.

Again, if you have questions, concerns, etc., please email me at josie.anderson57@gmail.com or call/text to (435) 452-8173. Thanks!

Gala Tickets

Message from our ticket maven:

Dear Awesome People,

Josie Anderson here. The fundraising gala is drawing near and I need to know your ticket money status! Tickets are $15 each and you should all have at least 4 which you are responsible for either by turning them in or turning in the money for them. Please, please, please sell them. The LAST DAY POSSIBLE for returning the money to me is Tuesday, March 10. I will be at Promontory School for the NUYCO rehearsal, and you can meet me there at 5 PM to give me your ticket money. If that doesn't work for you, please use a form of contact information below and we can arrange to meet at another time. Thanks!

Gala Fundraiser -- What? Why?

Dear Wonderful People,

We are all getting over our Abravanel Hall [Jet] Lag, but I have to bug you again.

A week from this Saturday -- March 14 -- is our Gala Fundraiser, Silent Auction, Dinner, Raffle, and all-around wonderful evening. There is a string quartet playing live music adding ambiance during the meal, which is catered by Iron Gate Catering, and they do a wonderful job making us feel elegant in a less-than-elegant setting.

Everyone in the orchestra has been given four tickets to sell. If everyone could sell at least two by Saturday, we would have this thing off the ground and running, but there are not enough tickets sold yet! We can't do it without you. :)

Additional entertainment will include a performance by the Chamber Orchestra, and an encore performance of Josh Austin and Jaquell Taylor's Vivaldi cello concerto.

(The Youth Symphony is too big for the venue -- although I just had a vision of everyone in a circle around the outer edge of the room, performing "in the round" for the dinner guests... Maybe next year!)

This is an event that you can feel confident inviting your neighbors and friends to; we always get great feedback from people who come.

Why do we do it? We began this tradition when one of our grants disappeared (The Marie Eccles Caine foundation split and changed their direction), and we were desperate for funding.

What we found: The foundations love that we are able to show so much community support for our organization and they have become more generous! However, part of the reason they are generous is because we show that support through this dinner.

I know that there are conflicts that day, and I know that not everyone will be able to come, or can afford tickets, but there are alternate ways to support the endeavor. Here are some ideas:

Sell tickets to neighbors, or to your grandparents, aunts and uncles, even if they live far away (and let us know if they won't be attending so we can adjust the meal numbers accordingly).

Donate something, or find a business to donate, to the silent auction. The best stuff is new, unused, or a gift card for something.

Buy raffle tickets. They are a dollar. Need not be present to win. More info Saturday...

Volunteer. Help with decorations or clean-up.

If you are student helping bus tables, your meal is on us. If you are performing, your ticket is only $8, the approximate cost of the meal.

Come to the dinner! Bring in Silent Auction or cash donations! Sell Tickets! Enter the Raffle! Volunteer!

It's really a lovely evening in addition to helping a great cause.

[Silent Auction Items can be turned in to me at rehearsal!]

Thanks,
Julie
