LYS Saturday Report for November 7, 2009

Greetings~ Be Sure To Read Announcements for NEXT WEEK below!
This is Julie Gardner, Managing Director of Lincoln Youth Symphony, GJulieKay@gmail.com, 435.723.8262. Please contact me with questions or if you need to arrange for an absence or to leave early.

Today's Rehearsal.
We had concerto auditions this morning. Thank you to those who participated. It's such hard work to prepare these types of pieces! Those we select will be on the January 30th concert. We will announce the program really soon.

In contrast to last week, this week we had all sorts of people gone with family, participating in the pit orchestra or stage crew at Weber High, or leaving for funerals or Veteran's Day concerts, as well as someone who had to work! It's just crazy how one week we have just about everyone there, and the next week we have many empty chairs!

But ya'll missed out on the fun! We had sight-reading session with Christmas music, and chose 3 of the four pieces to perform at the December 7th Browning Center concert. We will be playing Winter Wonderland, Bach Christmas, and Sleigh Ride. We kept the fourth piece, Christmas Festival, just in case we decide to use it, but it's a little harder! If you weren't here this week, be sure to talk to me before rehearsal next week.

Next Week.
Here's hoping everyone reads their email! Next week, since we are in crunch mode for the concert the following week, rehearsal will begin at 8:00 am. Did you hear that? 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Please be on time!

And be sure to bring treats or snacks to share. Healthy ones are okay too!

I will not be at rehearsal next week. I will be out of town with my daughter who will be doing Junior Miss. I just realized that! Hmmm. :)

Concert Coming Up.
The concert is two weeks from today on November 21st. The rehearsal that morning will be at Box Elder Middle School on the stage in the auditorium.

Just a review of clothing for the concert:
Boys: Black tux or equivalent suit, white dress shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black shoes.

Girls: Black dress, formal trouser suit, or blouse & skirt, midriff covered, conservative neckline, skirts & dresses at least tea-length, slits no higher than knee, black stockings, black shoes, accessories & trim in black.

Kids Are Music ~ Kids & Christmas!
I have submitted a list of students to be turned in to the WSU box office at the Browning Center. I expect I'll need to collect money at some point, perhaps starting next week. I still have a couple people I haven't heard from on this. Please be sure to let me know asap.

There will be a tech rehearsal in the afternoon before the concert. The time of this rehearsal has not yet been announced. If you can't come to the tech rehearsal, come to the concert anyway. We'll take good notes for you!
Happy Sunny November! (Just wait... Now that I said that, it will rain and snow all week!)
