LYS Saturday Report March 22nd, 2008

Greetings!

I hope you all had a great Spring Break!

Rehearsal this Saturday. We will be voting on a possible time change (I'd like to experiment before the end of the year. 8:30 to 11:00 or 9:00 to 11:30, but if you're late we keep you extra...). We will also be checking out new music. Remember to let me know if you will not be there or will be leaving early.

Breaking news: Our Dress Rehearsal will be May 1, 4:45 to 6:15 at ACYI. Please add it to your calendar. We need everyone there!

We also did a bunch of sight-reading. We made some fun, and sometimes rather interesting, music.

Symphony #15 - Haydn (4 votes)
Polacca Moderne - Matesky (This one had 8 votes)
Allegro in C - Mozart (6 votes)

Gopak - Mussorgsky (1 vote)
Swedish Rhapsody
Rumanian Overture - Isaac (11 votes)
break (not many people voted on the pieces we played after break)
Symphony #2 - Haydn (1 vote)
Prometheus Overture - Beethoven (2 votes)
Hymn of Praise - Mendelssohn (2 votes)

The Lake Bonneville Community Symphony (LBCS) would like to invite LYS members to come and rehearse with us for our Spring 2008 Choral/Symphony concert with the Wasatch Masters Chorale.  The concerts are on Friday, April 18th (at 7:30 in the Garland Tabernacle) and Sunday, April 20th (at 7:00 in the Ogden Tabernacle).  Rehearsals start this Tuesday, March 25th, and run every Tuesday and Thursday between March 25th and our April 18th concert EXCEPT for Thursday, April 10th.  That is only seven rehearsals and we would love to have you there, even if you can only attend some of the practices.

Please let us know if you plan to participate by email LakeBonnSymph@gmail.com.  Right now we could use extra strings help, especially cellos!  Rehearsals are from 6:30-8:00 in the band room.

If they want to know what we will be playing, we are playing with the choir:

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

For the Beauty of the Earth

The symphony alone will be playing:

Peer Gynt (movements from)

St. Lawrence Overture

Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess

LYS Saturday & Abravanel Hall Report March 8th, 2008

Greetings!

Well, we have made it through yet another trip to Abravanel Hall. I hope you all enjoyed the experience of listening to the other orchestras. I'm sorry that I cut it so tight with Jana. She was a witness for the prosecution in a Mock Trial competition in Orem. It started 45 minutes late, and, as you may have noticed, we barely made it back to Salt Lake in time. She said the only reason she could even play was adrenaline!

I would also like to publicly thank Cindy Stocks and Irma Bennett for riding the bus and checking off the names and making sure we didn't leave anyone or lose anyone. There is no way we could have done this without them.  Thank you!

I also want you to know that I am honored to have been there with you. Thank you for your time and effort. Section leaders that willingly step up and take that leadership role are fabulous. Thanks to all who nailed their solos and made it a memorable day!

We also said goodbye to James (we will miss you!), but he is planning to come back and make a video of himself. Great idea, huh? Don't come on the 22nd of March, James. It's Spring Break and there's no rehearsal!

Oh, One Other Thing. Boy, do I feel sheepish!  Do you remember how I was looking for a missing music stand? Well.... my child who loaded them in the van and will remain nameless in this email, thought he loaded 6 stands, and I thought I counted 6 stands when we were at the dinner, but there were only ever five. He helped me so much that day, but he forgot how to count (and so did I for that matter)! So the missing stand has... been at my house the entire time!  Now you know why no one could find it! Just thought I'd clear up the mystery for you. Laugh if you want, or smirk and shake your head. I'm used to being the punch line of the joke. :)

LYS Saturday Report March 1st, 2008

Greetings!

Thanks for all your work and preparation for our concert. I have heard some fabulous comments and had great feedback. Any additional feedback or suggestions are welcome.

How did you feel about the lighting? I would love to do away with the spotlight and light the stage so we can see the conductor. That would be refreshing!

Anyone who has the article from the Standard Examiner, I would love a copy. Anyone in Tremonton, did the article appear in the Leader? If it did, could I have a copy of that too?

And ladies, thanks for making your legs Black!

There will be CD's and DVD's available for purchase. They will have goth the March 1 and the Abravanel Hall concerts on them. I will find out prices ASAP. Prepaid orders only, please. There is no deadline. Orders will be filled as they are received. I will give you more details Saturday or Monday.

Contact Info: Julie Gardner, Managing Director, 435.723.8262, LincolnYouthSymphony@gmail.com or GJulieKay@gmail.com.

This Week: March 8th, 2008

The Youth Symphony Festival at Abravanel Hall is coming right up on Monday. If you lost your permission slip, or did not get one for some reason, there is one available for download on the website. Click here.

If you are interested in looking at the music inventory (this does not include the music in the cabinets we moved in December--it hasn't been inventoried yet, but it may become someone's Eagle project), there is also a download for that on the same page. I know Nathan S was asking about this. Click here.

Rehearsal will be normal time this Saturday, 8:00 a.m. for everyone.

Treats: Violas, Cellos, Bass! This will be James' last rehearsal, so let's make it good!

Last Week: March 1st, 2008
