Our retreat is two weeks away on 22 and 23 October! For those of you who are new, we take a 24 hour time-out at a camp with amenities.Yes, bathrooms. Flush toilets. Showers. They feed us, and we use the lodge for rehearsal space. Chances to play games, get to know each other, and just enjoy the time away, and also have 3 intensive rehearsals for the upcoming concert! It takes the place of our regular Saturday morning rehearsal. Many of you have already paid the $60 (this just covers the cost - the money goes straight to the camp). There are heated cabins, four with 10 beds each, and four with 6 beds each. There are safe places to keep your instrument, and the lodge is heated, even overnight for those with large instruments. We need at least 2 adult women, and at least 2 adult men to come as chaperones to keep tabs on all the crazy musicians (just kidding - they do sleep at night!). Your overnight fee ($30) is covered, but we ask you to pay for whatever meals you eat with us. If you can't come for the whole time but can at least come overnight, we can also accommodate your schedule. Please see the linked PDF for all the details, a chance to request a cabin mate, and a volunteer spreadsheet to sign up for all things NUYS (not just the retreat!).
Those missing forms etc have been reminded separately.
Our concert is scheduled for November 12, which is a Friday, at Ogden High School. I have heard from one student who would need the concert to be later in the evening, at 7pm. If you have a conflict with the concert being this late, I need to hear from you. This could mean you are in a pit orchestra that night, and you need the concert to be earlier in the evening instead of later.I strongly request you contact me ASAP regarding any insurmountable conflicts. A reply to this email would be fine.
I will be sending additional emails this week regarding missing Shirt Orders (have you ordered yours? If not yet, click here for the t shirt order form). There are still medical forms needed so I can turn in food restrictions to the camp for retreat, and so we have your info in case of emergency during any other activities. Everyone who hasn't turned one in yet will be contacted separately.A few haven't taken care of their tuition and payment form. If you are one of those, please bring it Saturday!
Retreat is Oct 22-23. We are going! Yes! If you haven't already decided what you are doing, I need to hear from you. If you can't come to the whole 24 hours (preferred), you can come to part of it. But we have to know your plans, and will adjust your fee accordingly.
This Saturday's rehearsal is on the EARLY SCHEDULE. We start at 8 am and run until 10 am. We did announce this last Saturday and it has been on the calendar from the beginning, so hopefully everyone has internalized the message.
This Saturday our goal is to give everyone a better overview of the music, see how everyone fits together, and gain more confidence in what you need to practice. So we will be together the whole time - no sectionals. We will begin with Beethoven, and we have decided to ONLY play the first movement of the Beethoven 6th Symphony, at least for this concert. We will also be sightreading a new piece, Hatikvah by Eliot Del Borgo. I (Julie) think you'll like it.Here is the order of the rehearsal. If you do NOT play in the Beethoven 1st movement, you may sneak in at 8:30 am instead of beginning rehearsal at 8.7:30 doors unlock8:00 rehearsal begins
