Concert Announcements

If you haven't already paid your portion for the pictures, please do. $10 cash or check to LBSS. I have about 22 people who, according to my records, haven't paid yet. I am pretty crunched for time as I pull all the loose ends together, so there will not be a separate email for those who haven't paid yet.

We have rental music in our folders - Rhapsody in Blue. It is SUPER important that we have EVERY folder turned in tomorrow after the concert. (Tour people will be given folders at their first rehearsal, May 6). My big black box will be there ready for your folders!

It seems trite to send this in an email, but we want you to know about this. Our condolences to the Kaminsky family. The obituary and information on Meagan (Cello) Kaminsky's dad funeral is here:
http://www.gilliesfuneralchapel.com/webpages/Individual_obits/2017/Daniel%20Brent%20Kaminsky.html

Concert dress is formal concert black, and the official description from the website is here:
  • Male: Black tux or equivalent suit, white dress shirt, black bow tie, black socks, black shoes.
  • Female: Black dress, formal trouser suit, or blouse & skirt, midriff covered, conservative neckline, skirts & dresses at least tea-length, slits no higher than knee, black stockings, black shoes, accessories & trim in black.
Logistics for tomorrow:
Do not go into the commons area. Enter the school from the south door if possible. I will tell you when you arrive where to put your cases etc. We need to stay in the Auditorium area only, except when instructed for our pictures. There are auditions happening in the drama room, and a recital in the choir room.

Pictures: Because of the rain, each orchestra will be divided into groups and the groups will be photo-shopped into a full group picture for each orchestra. Our photographer has been given permission to use a staircase in the commons area to take the pictures, with a promise that you will be super quiet! Each of 7 groups in NUYS will have about 5 minutes for their picture to be taken. The groups have been pre-selected for the different instruments to be in the right places in the picture. We will all have to be incredibly cooperative. Pictures are scheduled to start at 6pm, so after rehearsal, please get ready quickly, or come ready before rehearsal. This is going to be super picture! :)

See you all tomorrow! Please arrive between 3 and 3:45 and be ready to rehearse at 4. We will need lots of help setting up!

Thanks,

Julie

NUYS Reminders

Greetings!

Only 3 items today:

1. This Saturday, bring your $10 for the group picture. Checks to LBSS, or cash. Remember, we need ALL musicians to participate in this. Click here for the previous email with more information, including details about logistics for next Tuesday.

2. The parent meeting for tour is directly after rehearsal, 11 to 11:30. Even if rehearsal runs long (see #3 below), the meeting will still start at 11:00. After coming down the entry hallway, just go right, down the west hallway. You'll find Debra Francis & the meeting down there.

3. No sectionals this Saturday. Rehearsal also might run 30 minutes overtime as we prepare for our upcoming concert. Just a heads up so you can be prepared to stay if your schedule allows. Thanks!

Natalie On Stage!!!!

Greetings! I want you to be aware of this concert on Monday evening. Our own Natalie Nef will be the featured performer, and you will also recognize several others who play in OYS as well. Such a treat to be performing in the Austad Auditorium - it's a lot like the auditorium at Abravanel Hall! Go Natalie!

:)
Julie

Natalie Nef!

Natalie is the first place winner of the String Project & Ogden Youth Sympony

Concerto Competition.

You can see her perform accompanied by the Ogden Youth Symphony on the String Project concert on

Monday, April 17, 2017.

Professional Photo & Concert Day Schedule

Exciting Announcement:

We have a high quality photographer coming to do a professional group photo of each orchestra. This will be accomplished when everyone is dressed up, and we have our best attendance, on our concert day, April 25 at Box Elder High School, after rehearsal and before the concert (or for NUYCO before their rehearsal).

The fee for this is $10 each. This means every member of the orchestra pays! We will collect the money and give Barr Photography one check. Please write checks to LBSS or pay in cash. I will bring a list to check people off, and you can begin bringing money this Saturday. We need it all collected this week and next.

When it's ready, the photo file will be made available to everyone via a link online. This means you can print as big and as many as you want, at whatever photo lab you choose, or share the photo online. Because this is a digital file, we must have everyone's participation. If we make it optional, it would cause otherwise honest people to do dishonest things. This also takes care of past distribution issues.

As as side note, this photographer is from Australia. I promise you will like him. Just the accent makes him cool. We will plan to shoot these photos outdoors, but if the weather or lighting is uncooperative, they will have studio equipment with them. We can be assured of a great photo, folks!

They are also willing to do some individual images.  Let me know if this is something you might be interested in.  Your individual image would be a fully retouched single pose digital file, $65 per person, each with a 15 minute time slot. You would select your image on the spot and they would then retouch and deliver it to you personally. The schedule for this would depend on which orchestra the student is in and what their other obligations are for that time frame. If there are a lot of people wanting to do this, another day may be scheduled, but we would need to know asap.

Have a look at their website: www.barrphoto.com and read their attached letter.

Here is the schedule for the afternoon, including rehearsal and set-up, at Box Elder High School:

NUYS - Youth Symphony

3:00 pm Arrive and begin set-up

4:00-5:30 pm (or earlier if possible) NUYS Rehearsal

5:50 pm NUYS photo call time (concert dress, with instruments, leave your bow in your case)

6:00 pm NUYS photo session (if we are outdoors, be sure to get your instrument warm again before we perform)

7:00 pm Concert

NUYCO - Chamber Orchestra

4:50 pm NUYCO photo call time (in concert dress, with instruments, leave your bow in your case)

5:00 pm NUYCO photo session

5:45-6:30 pm NUYCO Rehearsal

7:00 pm Concert

Please plan to bring a sack supper for yourself that day. Water is the only allowed drink.

Thanks again to the major sponsorship of PetsFirst! Wellness Center and the mini sponsorship of PR Instructional Design, our concert admission is free of charge. Also a big shout-out to the anonymous donor who sponsored the entire rental of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

See ya Saturday! Regular rehearsal, 8:30 to 11:00. :)

-Julie

Rehearsal Recordings

This link will take you to recordings made by Hubert Kim, our soloist for Rhapsody in Blue. It's a minus track --- it's Hubert minus the orchestra.

You may find it useful. The files are .3gp files, recorded on a cell phone, labeled with measure numbers. You may not be able to play them on your computer, but you may be able to play them from your phone if you download them. I can't play them from google drive on my phone, but I can play them if I download them onto my phone. I have set the titles of each file so they should sort in order.

Good luck with your practicing! And please let me know if this works for you.
