Parent Meeting.
Thanks to all who came to our parent meeting. I truly enjoyed putting names to faces, and I am honored to know you. Thanks for letting us hold you hostage for 45 minutes; we truly believe in music for the youth. If you have any ideas or suggestions about anything feel free to let us know!
Welcome New Musicians.
Welcome to all who are playing with us this year! I suppose we are all new, since it's a new year. Start learning names, and enjoy this time with each other! Let's welcome a few new people each week until we have a whole gaggle of Violins, another Oboe, Bassoon, and Trombone, and at least one Bass and one Tuba!

Your Permission to distribute roster.
I am planning to distribute a roster to everyone in the youth symphony. Please contact me if you are concerned about this in any way (I will assume that no response equals consent). I believe that you will have more opportunities for carpooling if you have each other's contact information.
Music for the concert.
Today we checked out music for the entire year. This is a new experiment for us, but we believe it will be a great thing to take the opportunity to rehearse the more difficult music throughout the year so it's more polished by the end. There is a lot of music in your folders, but we are not playing all of it for the first concert! Here is a preliminary list of what we will be playing, and when:
November 21 Concert:Haydn: Symphony 101: Finale (and possibly the first movement)January 30 Concerto Concert:
Mozart: Wedding March from the Marriage of Figaro
von Weber: Three Rustic Dances
Grieg: The Last Spring (you don't have this one yet)Frescobaldi: ToccataApril 23 Final Concert:
Additional pieces to be determined at concerto auditionsLiszt: Les Preludes
Tchaikovsky: Three Pieces from Swan Lake
Mozart: Titus Overture
Weinberger: Odzemek
No rehearsal next week.
Have a great Fall Break, and we'll see you October 10th for Auditions at 8:00am and Rehearsal 8:30 - 11:00am.
Concerto Auditions.
If you have been preparing a concerto, or have a friend that has been preparing a concerto, we'd love to hear you or your friend for Concerto Auditions on Nov 7th! Please be sure to approve the music you are planning on playing to make sure our orchestra is able to play it and to make sure the music is available. The board has made a policy that members of the organization may audition for concerto night without a fee; non-members will be charged a fee for auditioning, but the auditions are open to anyone. The concert will be January 30. We hope to have several students on the program this year, and we are also working on a guest performer.
Have a great week... actually, have a great two weeks!
Practice hard, not hardly, and we'll see you Oct 10.
