Fwd: Tour :)

Hi!

I sent an invitation to everyone so you have access to a folder on Google Drive to share pictures. If you didn't get that invitation
, please contact us for the link.
Only those who have been given access will be able to use this link.

I already put all of my pictures in. There really aren't very many! I hope you all have amazing ones to add as well! (This one is from Mrs Fielding.)

And here, in the order written, is the series of Limericks we composed on the way home. (Realize, folks, that the last 3 verses were written in the last 3 miles, and no one is allowed to be offended!)

The musicians of NUYS
They really think they are the best
If they watch Mr Dunn
Performing's more fun
Where they're going next you'll never guess

The viola's the very best section
They don't really remember the question
Two measures ago
They lost all control
Their bows are in different directions

Percussion likes banging the gong
They never can see the baton
Don't ask them to play
They've been counting all day
And they don't know what measure they're on

Our conductor is really so old
His truck always breaks on the road
He's often* so late
But we still think he's great
He's shrinking but still leads our fold

The first
s
are cocky and smart
They think they own every part
They steal melodies
So make them stop please
Balance is truly an art
(Keep it down up there!)

The seconds are rather neglected
For solos they're never selected
They try really hard
So bless their dear hearts
A species that should be protected

They cellos are seldom* in tune
O please take them out of the room
We want some relief
From all of this grief
A sectional's needed soon

The brass is always too loud
They really are all rather proud
They play with pizzazz
And they can play jazz
We need them to please the crowd

For woodwinds we write a haiku
We've run out of time - what to do
The basses are great
They determine our fate
And we really like touring with you!

*I've replaced always and never with often and seldom. Just to be less snarky!

The chorus to the Limerick song is:
Aye, aye, aye, aye
In China they never grow chili
So sing me another verse
That's worse than the first verse
Make sure that it's foolish and silly!

Have a great summer!

Tour: Last Minute Items and Clothing Clarification

Greetings!
Saturday's rehearsal was FANTASTIC!  We are so excited for this week.  Here are a few reminders and Performance Attire clarifications:

Departure Time
Our meeting time is now 7:30 AM at Promontory.  Please arrive a little before.  You will be tagging your luggage (luggage tags provided) and when the bus arrives at 7:45 am you will help load.  It will be important for us to depart by 8:30 am.

Lunches
Day One:  Reminder:  Bring a Sack lunch for Cove Fort.
You will also be given a bus ride snack and at Cove Fort we will hand you bottled water for your lunch.

Day Two: We have ordered 6" Subway sandwiches and will provide lunch items (drink, chips, cookies etc.) for our ride to Zion.
There will also be a snack provided for Zion.

Day Three:  Please bring lunch money.  A bus ride snack will also be provided.

Attire Clarification
Cove Fort Performance:  NUYS T-shirt or any other solid color shirt (no logo shirts) with clean, decent (no holes) bottoms i.e., pants, or capri, or knee length shorts or skirt, khaki or jeans. This is what you will wear onto the bus Wednesday morning!

Workshop #1 & Workshop #2:  NUYS T-shirt or any other solid color shirt with jeans. (These are first thing Thursday and Friday mornings.)

Zion Excursion:  Sturdy shoes, hiking attire, sunblock, hat recommended, water bottle. Shorts OK. (Thursday, right after Workshop #1)

Tuacahn Performances:  Your New NUYS Tour Shirt (provided first day of tour), khaki bottoms, i.e. pants, capri, knee length shorts or skirt.  (If you can avoid it, shorts NOT preferred at these performances.)

For the entire trip: Please no tank tops/cami tops/ no shoulders or bellies/ no short shorts.  We care about what we're doing and want to look the part of a professional group! We reserve the right to invite you to change into something more appropriate for the performance if deemed necessary.

The Tuacahn Stage and the Mini Amphitheater Stage were built especially so that the performers would not be in any direct sun so it should be a little cooler and there should be no sunglasses necessary!

Thank you!

Debra and Julie

PS If you have any questions, please please ask!

Important Tour Information: Parents Please Read

Tour Parents and Participants:

We have a few items that need attention:

Case Measurements
Please, Please, Please RIGHT NOW, grab a tape measure and input on the Google form your case measurements.  We are trying to finalize a trailer and transportation of our equipment!

Are Your Traveling With Us?
We're also interested in knowing which families will be traveling with us on tour.  Please reply to this email if you are 1) Car-a-van-ing with us and leaving with us from Promontory and returning with us to Promontory OR 2) Traveling to St. George but going to meet the group there = see you at the first concert at Tuacahn!

Packing
Please plan to only have your musician pack a "carry on" size piece of luggage and only ONE piece of luggage.  A purse, pillow, blanket and to do things can sit in the seat with the musician, but all other luggage will be put in a trailer or under the bus.  We are making room for instruments first, then luggage since we will only be gone three days.  Here are the
 luggage
dimensions:  22 x 14 x 9

Itinerary
A final itinerary is attached. Please note that some events changed days i.e., the Back Stage Tour.  This was mainly due to being able to store our instruments in the hotel versus a hot bus while at Zion's.

Departure Time
Our departure time is now 7:30 AM at Promontory.
This is due to a rule that bus drivers can only be on the road so many hours.  In order to make the performance time at Cove Fort and then our Back Stage Tour, we have to change bus drivers in SLC.

Performing Attire
  • Cove Fort:  NUYS T-shirt or any other solid color shirt (no logo shirts) with khaki bottoms i.e., pants, or capri, or knee length shorts or skirt.

  • Workshop #1 & Workshop #2:  NUYS T-shirt or any other  solid color shirt with jeans.

  • Zion:  Sturdy shoes, hiking attire, sunblock, hat recommended, water bottle.

  • Tuacahn Performances:  New NUYS Tour Shirt (provided first day of tour), khaki bottoms (see Cove Fort).  Shorts NOT preferred at these performances.

  • Please no tank tops/cami tops/ no shoulders or bellies/ no short shorts.  We care about what we're doing and want to look the part of a professional group! We reserve the right to invite you to change into something more appropriate for the performance if deemed necessary.

    t
especially so that the performers would not be in any direct sun so it should be a little cooler and no sunglasses necessary!

Lunch Money
Reminder to send a little money with your musician.  Originally we were planning on stopping to get meals twice but due to time restrictions, we will provide the lunch on Day 2.  Your musician will be responsible for any lunch funds for Day 3.  In addition, there is a gift shop if your musician wants a souvenir.

Is Your Student Riding Home with You?
If your student will not be riding the bus home, PLEASE WRITE A NOTE ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER WITH YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER and provide it to Debra on the morning of Departure.

Rehearsal Saturday
Another reminder for rehearsal Saturday.  It's a long but necessary one and thank everyone that can make it!  Rehearsal starts at 8:30 am.  Please see the previous email for more rehearsal details.

The Big Rehearsal Announcement

Hey all!

Mission Impossible has been deemed - er - impossible for us because of the lack of time we have to put it together. It has once more been removed from our list of music. Just leave it in your folder. We'll collect it with everything else afterwards.

If you haven't put your case measurements on the spreadsheet, we would be super happy if you would, please! Click Here. :)

We are picking up T-Shirts Monday June 12. If there is anyone that needs their shirt washed before wearing (like if you have skin sensitivities), please let me know so we can make arrangements.

Don't forget I made a cool list of links to help you practice the music we are playing. Click here for the post on the blog.

Next Week's Schedule:

After doing an intriguing hand raising exercise in rehearsal today, a decision has been made. Did you notice passive voice there? Well, I can own it. I made the decision!

The big announcement is that we are going to have a Big Rehearsal next Saturday. And an informal concert. And Lunch. But not in that order. (However, NO midweek rehearsal.)

Important Tour Information

Reminder and 4 IMPORTANT TO DO's FOR TOUR:

1. Rehearsal

Reminder:  Rehearsal TOMORROW, Saturday, June 3rd @ 8:30 am
PLEASE try to be there, and come early to help set up.

We only have (2) rehearsals left!

(From Julie: Mr Dunn and I are considering adding a mid-week rehearsal, depending on how things go tomorrow. Please come with intelligence on which days work for you during the week. Monday thru Friday, Morning, Afternoon, Evening... If we decide to add a rehearsal, we will do so by the raise of hands! That's so hi-tech, right?... if you won't be there tomorrow, use the attendance form, but in the explanation box, also tell me when you can rehearse mid-week.)

2. Tour Medical Release & NUYS Release

Below is a list of participants WHO STILL NEED TO COMPLETE & TURN IN THEIR FORMS.  YOU ABSOLUTELY cannot board the bus without these forms.  Please turn them in at Saturday's rehearsal.  If you cannot turn them in Saturday, mail them to Debra Francis, 1457 Lake Street, Ogden, Utah  84401.

We need ORIGINAL signatures with ALL blanks completed.  The most important blank is the name and phone number of an adult to contact in case of an emergency.
(List has been removed for posting on the blog)
Email Julie if you need the form.

3. Last Payment

$25 Payments still needed from the following... Checks to LBSS. Cash is fine too.

(list removed for blog post)

4. Equipment Measurements

We are going to haul not only you, but also your luggage AND your instruments.  TODAY, PLEASE add your info to the Google Spreadsheet to let us know the measurements of your instrument case and the type of case.  If you do not provide these measurements, you run the risk of holding your instrument on your lap the entire trip!

Here is the full URL if the link above doesn't work:

Getting pretty excited about this!
