Youth Guild May Newsletter - of interest to youth symphony members

Greetings!

I am forwarding the newsletter from the Utah Symphony Youth Guild. The youth guild is a fabulous organization. The family fee to join is just $15 per year, and the perks are tremendous. Your family can go on a backstage tour of Abravanel Hall, including a chat with someone from the orchestra, and get free tickets to the concert. You can also buy voucher packs for certain concerts at a very good deal, volunteer to help at the Lollipops concerts (for which you also get free tickets), volunteer to help with the coat check (free tickets again), and qualify to audition for the youth guild recital.

There is also a Salute to Youth audition coming up. The Utah State Fair usually runs a music competition that qualifies students for  the Salute to Youth audition. This year, for financial reasons, the Utah State Fair is not running the music competition. The paperwork (in the attached newsletter) is due on July 1st, the recording is due July 20th, and whoever is selected will audition in person on stage at Abravanel Hall (usually about 40 or 50 people) on Aug 18th. They will choose about half a dozen students to play in the Salute to Youth concert (to play a concerto with the orchestra) on Sept 29th!  This is an economical way to experience an audition situation. Many other competitions cost considerably more to enter.

Thank you for your time!

Julie Gardner

4th of July Concert Invitation and Details

Greetings!

Just another quick reminder. They are specifically looking for another flutist. Any students, parents, siblings, anyone that plays an instrument and wants to play, here is the schedule and program for the 4th of July.  Please respond to my email if you are interested. If you play a wind, a brass, or percussion, they may be interested in you as well.  It looks like a really fun concert.  The more players, the more fun and better the symphony will sound.  Come and have a great time!!

Julie

P.S.  If you cannot participate in the 4th of July, we will also be performing at Peach Days.  All LYCO, LYS and Adult Symphony members, and community will be combining for this as well.
